The Terrapins add one of the top linebackers in the area, shoring up the middle of their 3-4 defense.

Maryland has added another piece to their 2015 recruiting class, as Fredericksburg (Va.) Massaponax High School linebacker Gus Little committed to the Terrapins Thursday, per Rivals. With the commitment, Maryland moves up to 28th in the 247sports composite recruiting rankings, ranking sixth in the Big Ten.

Little received an offer from the Terrapins on June 1 while attending a camp in College Park -- his 10th, following the likes of Boston College, Marshall and Old Dominion. He also claimed interest from two schools known for producing linebacking talent: Michigan State and Virginia Tech.

Little is listed at 6'3" and weighs in at 230 pounds. The 247sports composite rates him as a three-star prospect, ranking him as the 23rd-best inside linebacker in the nation and the 23rd-best prospect in the state of Virginia. His primary recruiter was outside linebackers coach Lyndon Johnson, who also grabbed a commit from outside linebacker Nnamdi Egbuaba during the last recruiting cycle.

He's a strong student (he lists a 4.0 GPA on his highlight film) and perhaps an even stronger tackler, and looks to be a prototypical fit up the middle for Maryland's 3-4 scheme, in the footsteps of Cole Farrand, Alex Wujciak and L.A. Goree. Maryland has also been heavily targeting McDonogh (Md.) inside linebacker Wyatt Cook, one of the top 10 players in the state, so we'll just have to wait and see how this decision impacts Cook's recruitment.

Little continues Maryland recent recruiting momentum, giving them their ninth commitment in the past month. He's also their fourth defensive commitment, joining cornerback Kareem Ali, defensive end Mbi Tanyi and defensive tackle Keiron Howard.

Here's some highlight film on the prospect:
