UMD's (Long-Term) QB of the Future

Assuming Kai Locksley chooses not to join his Dad at Maryland, who will be the Terps' long-term quarterback of the future?

Barring unforeseen circumstances, C.J. Brown will be the starter for the 2014 season, and junior Caleb Rowe will likely be second on the depth chart. Beginning in 2015, though, it appears as though the starting job will be wide open. Theoretically, Rowe would be the favorite, since he's been the #2 guy for the last two seasons, but as a senior, he wouldn't be the long-term answer.

After Rowe, Perry Hills, a redshirt junior in 2015, has the most experience, playing in several relatively unspectacular games as a true freshman. Shane Cockerille, a redshirt sophomore in 2015 and an Elite 11 participant after his senior year of high school, is more of a pro-style QB (like Caleb Rowe). He will have one additional year in the system than 2014 recruit Will Ulmer, who has blazing speed as a dual-threat QB, but a questionable arm. Ulmer has been rumored to be a candidate to play one of several other positions on the offensive side of the ball, or possibly even a defensive back. At 6'7", 2015 recruit Gage Shaffer is more of an unknown, but most likely a project.

What is most concerning, is that neither Hills, Cockerille, Ulmer nor Shaffer are the odds-on favorite to be the long-term solution at QB. Is that a bad thing?
