So remember how awesome our move to the B1G was. We got to move to greener ($$$) pastures and then the B1G brought Johns Hopkins along to create a lacrosse league. And something called Rutgers to give us a rival. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to put Georgetown on the schedule and then finally, Maryland will have everything it needs to make a push for national relevance.
Well, the B1G might be able to do that too! With the announcement of the B1G vs Big East challenge
The idea is basically to create a meaningful set of games to kick off the college basketball season, while also pushing visibility in the north east, Big cities in the footprint...and creighton.
The formal name of the event is the Gavitt Tip Off games after Dave Gavitt, Big East founder and basketball hall of famer. but here's the part that got my attention, and hopefully that of all Terp Fans.
The Gavitt Tipoff Games could include more potential in-state matchups like Ohio State-Xavier or Indiana-Butler, but much like the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, games will be determined primarily by the strength of the teams.
Does this hint at the possibility of seeing Georgetown on the schedule? I hope so, it's a rivalry that needs to be rekindled given our absense of them since we're moving to the B1G.
And to paraphrase one of our own posters tag lines: Can somebody tell me what a Hoya is? I have no clue.
