at the guard position next year, it occurred to me that we might just have a three man rotation with Allen, Trimble, and Wiley. It would appear that all three could handle either the shooting or point guard position. Preferably, it would be our All American recruit Trimble to handle the rock the majority of the time, but Allen has proven that he could do the job this past year, and Wiley certainly could be the third option. We would then see a rotation of Wells, Nickens, and Layman at the three depending on the matchup and foul trouble. At the four, we would see a rotation of a player to be named later,Mitchell, and Smotrycz. That leaves Dodd, Reed, and Cleare at center.
There are two names being left out here, Faust and Peters.
Let's just say that there is a good chance with Wiley and Trimble coming in there may be less minutes available next year at the guard position. Peters will have to develop both his right hand drive to the basket as well as his outside shooting. Heck, his free throw shooting is nothing to brag about. The question is whether he can improve enough on both the offensive and defensive ends to see any playing time. Peters may be the one to transfer. This actually makes a lot of sense as Faust has proven his defensive prowess and there will be limited playing time for Peters. Keep in mind that Maryland looks to add another point guard in the 2015 class, so Peters may just be seeing the handwriting on the wall and decide to transfer down to get playing time.
As to Faust, he has proven himself to be an excellent defensive ballplayer who can defend multiple positions. If he would be satisfied with being a defensive specialist there certainly is a spot for him on next year's team. If Peters is the one who transfers we can add a power forward who can come in and be an immediate impact player. Although I am reluctant to wish for a player to transfer, at the same time it is apparent the we are in need of help at the power forward position. I know I am being optimistic here depending on the freshman to make a huge impact, but with the addition of an impact player at the power forward position, improvement from the majority of our returning players, and a very highly rated incoming freshman class I can see us going a long way next season.
