The junior Gonzaga quarterback could be staying close to home.

Hatchling Huddle is a recurring series where we talk to high school players recruited by Maryland or coaches who have Maryland recruits.

With a recent string of scholarship offers, the Maryland coaching staff has made it clear they are looking for a big-time quarterback in the class of 2015. After yesterday that list officially includes 3-star and composite 24th ranked pro-style quarterback, Nick Johns.

Johns lists two offers, Virginia and Maryland, but has been talking to coaches from Penn State, Michigan and Virginia Tech. He'll visit Virginia on March 1st and Virginia Tech in April, as well as Maryland for Junior Day on February 22nd.

Playing for the hometown Terps is appealing to the Gonzaga product.

"Coach Locksley is telling me about how it's close to my house," he said. "My dad could come see every game and there is early playing time."

In terms of his playing style, Johns says he's a "pocket passer that can run. It opens up the offense and keeps the defense on their heels." Looking at his highlight tape validates that claim.

Who does he model his game after?

"Andrew Luck," he said. "Another pocket passer that can run, and a big guy, 240 pounds. I try to be like him, also off the field as a person."

Johns suffered through some injuries at the end of the 2013 football season, but says he is 100% healthy as of a month ago.

The last Gonzaga football player to attend Maryland was defensive lineman, legendary tweeter and current Miami Dolphin AJ Francis.

When asked what he wants fans to know, Johns had a simple answer.

"Wherever I go, no matter what," he said. "I'm going to make a difference one way or another."

In terms of making a final decision, he would like to commit before his senior season.
