Maryland football recruiting: 2014 safety Antwaine Carter commits to the Terps

And off-the-radar prospect gives Maryland their fourth secondary commitment in the class.

Maryland has received a surprise commitment to their 2014 class, as 2014 safety Antwaine Carter has committed to the Terps.

Carter hails from Waldorf, and attends Westlake High School, giving Maryland their fourth commitment in the state. Listed at 6'2" and 185 pounds, he played cornerback, free safety and quarterback in high school, and is expected to play safety in College Park.

He's not a name that has been heard often over the past year, and the commitment comes as a bit of a surprise as a result. He is considered a three-star prospect by the 247sports composite.

Carter also played power forward in high school, and is a very capable athlete. Here's his senior season highlights -- he has good size and ball awareness, and should provide much-needed depth to the secondary unit.

This move comes in tandem with Jordan Noil's decommitment, and it's hard to see that as a coincidence. Carter will join Josh Woods and Daniel Ezeagwu as commitments in the Maryland secondary, with Carter and Woods expected to play safety.
