Duke sophomore forward Semi Ojeleye announced his intent to transfer this past Sunday, putting a major small forward on the market. Maryland could end up getting involved in the pursuit for his services, according to this report by Rivals' Scott Greene. Ojeleye would have to sit out the remainder of the season, but would likely be eligible to play next year.
Like nearly every Duke player, the 6'7 Ojeleye was an extremely highly-touted recruit coming out of high school. An Ottawa (Kans.) product, Ojeleye was considered a four-star recruit by the 247Sports composite, ranking as the 26th-best player in the 2013 class, the eighth-best small forward in the country and the best player in the state. He chose Duke over Arizona, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas State and UCLA, among others.
Ojeleye had a difficult time breaking into the Duke rotation, averaging 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.5 minutes per game this season. As a freshman last year, he averaged 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds in 4.7 minutes per game. He's been a pretty efficient offensive player in his time with the Blue Devils, in large part due to his ability to hit free throws, but he struggled with his shooting this season and was frequently in foul trouble.
Among Ojeleye's other rumored suitors Missouri and Kansas. Here's a quote from the kid, via Duke Basketball Report (linked in the previous sentence):
For his part, Ojeleye says this: "Obviously I want to play, but I want to go where I have a chance to learn and a chance to go to the NCAA tournament. If they have a good coaching staff, a good locker room and my family is all on the same page, that school has a good chance with me going there."
