Remember This Guy?

I was watching the Fiesta Bowl last night and was thinking of how awesome the offense for the UCF Knights looked and that it looked so similar to the offense we used to run here back when Friedgen was HC. After a few moments I found out why, I started to hear the name Charlie Taafe thrown around by the broadcast team doing the game. Yes, the same Charlie Taafe that was the OC for Ralph when we went to the Orange Bowl, Gator Bowl, and Chik-fil-A bowl. The same Charlie Taafe that led and offense that set school records and made pro prospects out of Shaun Hill and Scott McBrien. If my memory serves me correct, he left due to Ralph's ego and his wanting to have more control over the offense. Thus, our offense was never quite the same ever again and into mediocrity we slid, never to achieve anywhere near that type of offensive success again. While watching UCF hang 52 on Baylor last night I watched that offense and its schemes and execution and found myself thinking back to the recent "glory days" of Terp football and reminiscing of the awesome offensive seasons we had back in the early 2000's. Man I miss those days, but for awhile last night I got a taste of what used to be here at UMD.
