Terps Leading West Virginia After 1st Quarter, 14-0

Maryland leads West Virginia, 14-0 as the first quarter draws to a close here at M&T Bank. So far, it's been all defense for Maryland as the offense has struggled in the early going, putting up just 58 yards of offense in the game's first 15 minutes.

In their first drives of the game on offense, Maryland has struggled to move the ball while also committing two false start penalties. Their only scoring occurred following Maryland's fumble recovery of a West Virginia muffed punt at the Mountaineers' 25 yard line. A few players later, C.J. Brown found Dave Stinebaugh in the back of the endzone for a touchdown. Brown's pass was tipped, but Stinebaugh did a great job adjusting and hauling it in.

On WVU's insewing possession, A.J. Hendy jumped and wrestled a pass away from a WVU receiver and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown. It was Hendy's 2nd career interception, both of which were returned for touchdowns.

West Virginia has been able to have some ball movement on offense, but has only put up 46 total yards on what has been another dominant performance by Maryland, especially up front. West Virginia has tried to counter Maryland's pressure by utilizing quick screens while also using timing comeback routes by their receivers to try to gain separate on Maryland's defense backs. So far, the secondary has done a good job for Maryland.
