Great news - Joe Vellano has made the Patriots, barring something unexpected now the the roster is trimmed down to 53 (the Patriots actually trimmed theirs to 51 a few days ago with Vellano still on board - even better). I had thought his long training camp run after being a UDFA meant he was destined for the practice squad at best, but it appears he's the primary backup to Wilfork & Tommy Kelly. In other words, he's not some roster dressing guy - he probably is going to play. They cut some guys who started camp as a higher priority - like Marcus Forston from the U. I'm stoked for him and for Maryland. Here's a guy who stuck with the program through the toughest of times when everyone around him was jumping ship. I don't know what's going to become of the guys like DOB, Mackall, Coxson who bailed, but Vellano stayed home and kept working. He was a true anchor for Maryland when we so badly needed one and now great things are happening to a great Terrapin. In another funny twist, after they cut to 51, they signed another DT - A.J. Francis!! -- to join the unit.
