I have been doing some research online but I figured reaching out to students and alumni on here would be beneficial. I am in the process of evaluating PhD programs and right now Maryland is pretty high on my list (and yes it is partially due to the fact that Iowa plays there in 2014). What I have been trying to find is average cost of living. I have only done a cursory look online but I would like to pose the question to you all: Where would you look to find an apartment in College Park? My preference is an unfurnished single or efficiency close to campus. I am also wondering how much one would cost and how far students typically live away from campus. Extra points if it is close to the football stadium and/or basketball arena.
Also, I plan on doing a visit to campus sometime in the near future to meet with faculty (maybe catch a basketball game if I can swing it right). Where is the best place in College Park to get pizza and beer? I know I am awful for not getting crab cakes but I like to find a nice point of comparison when visiting college towns and I have yet to visit a college town that doesn't have a sports bar that serves pizza and beer. It is silly but it has become a bit of tradition when I visit schools so I figure I would put it to you all.
Good luck this year in the ACC and welcome to the B1G.
