It is essentially a non-story, but the (James) gist of the story is that he would be tempted to leave if the opportunity arose. For me, I immediately thought about the possibility of Turge being his replacement at Kansas but it also brought up a lot of questions.
- Does Self have a resume that would interest NBA teams? He says that he hasn't received much interest to date.
- Would Turgeon be the top choice for Kansas? He has to be up there but who else would be in the running? How much do they value brining in a coach with ties to the program?
- Is there a level of success that Turgeon could reach at Maryland that would keep him from moving to Kansas? My initial thought is that the answer is no and the draw of coaching at his alma mater would be too strong, but maybe that changes if he has a Final Four or national championship under his belt and a stacked team for the upcoming seasons. I still think the answer is no, but that would make it tougher.
