Things got a bit more difficult the next week, as Maryland lost to Clemson 51-41. A 24-7 Tigers third quarter made the late Maryland comeback (three touchdowns in the fourth) not enough. C.J. Brown completed 20 of 33 passes for 406 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw four interceptions. He also ran 18 times for 114 yards and two scores (Ross and Reid also added touchdowns on the ground). Nigel King caught six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown, while Deon Long had four catches for 128 yards and a score. Farrand and Whitfield each had eleven tackles.

After a bye week, Maryland had their most dominating performance yet, beating Syracuse 38-17, with an Orange touchdown in garbage time. Brown was 20-29 for 255 yards with two interceptions, and ran 24 times for 85 yards and a touchdown. Ross was the star of the game, with 20 carries for 149 yards and two scores. Diggs, Amba Etta, King and Long each had four receptions, and Farrand led the team with eight tackles. Jeremiah Johnson and A.J. Hendy each had interceptions - the latter returned for a touchdown.

At 7-2, Maryland is also now ranked - 21st in the country. Ross has made the Doak Walker watch list, Diggs is on the Biletnikoff, Farrand and Whitfield are on the Best LB list, and Diggs is on the best returner list.
