First, a link to the excellent article in The Diamondback: http://www.diamondbackonline.com/sports/baseball/article_41ae27dc-ef60-11e2-b618-0019bb30f31a.html
The one that hurts the most is Hockaday. He had a great freshman season and is currently tearing up the Cal Ripken summer league. Sometime this past season he fell afoul of Coach Szefc and was suspended. After reinstatement he did not return to being a regular player but started sporadically. I have no information why he was suspended, nor why he was thereafter platooned. What I do know is that Hockaday was arguably Maryland's best hitter going into next season.
Olenski got some serious playing time early on in 2013 and suddenly was benched. Matt Bosse was starting to get untracked and he too became a phantom. Bosse provided much needed power numbers and though striking out was a problem, he never was really given the opportunity to improve. In any event I wish the best for Hockaday, Olenski, and Bosse, and hope that they get an opportunity to play somewhere else.
All of the above is a bit disconcerting. Given the coaching change some transfers were expected after the 2012 season. But eight players, with two and possibly three being everyday players leaving???? On a positive note Jake Stinnett and Charlie White will be returning next season despite being drafted. And it seems like Lamont Wade Jr's freshman season wasn't a fluke, as he made the Cal Ripken summer league All-Stars.
