Have you ever noticed how, over time, people sometimes begin looking like their spouse, or their pet?
Maryland has been a basketball school for years; nay, decades. And it has been a member of a basketball conference - one of the best basketball conferences in the country - for decades. But Maryland is leaving that conference in July of 2014, and joining the B1G, a football conference - one of the best football conferences in the country.
I don't think anyone questions that the move to the B1G will aid football recruiting more than basketball recruiting, and in theory, over time, the football program should improve at a faster rate than the hoops program.
That begs the question: Assuming Randy Edsall & Co. are up the task, will Maryland eventually become a football school? And if so, when? It's gonna take time, if it happens at all.
So, for the sake of picking a year, I'll choose 2025; and ask the question: After a dozen years, will UMD become a football school, or at least pull even with the basketball program in terms of popularity?
