Does it concern anyone else that Dion Wiley appears to be the only four-star-or-better shooting guard with solid interest in Maryland in the 2014 recruiting class? Phil Booth appears headed for either Villanova or Indiana; and five-star Rashad Vaughn, who at one point listed the Terps among his favorites, seems like a UNC lean, with little interest in the Terps.
According to Maryland 24/7, Wiley has become our only option at this point. And the longer Wiley waits to make a decision - assuming he doesn't choose the Terps - the less time it allows Turge and Co. to make a push for a DeAngelo Russell or Jared Terrell, who currently seem to have little interest in UMD.
Of course, that could indicate Turge is pretty confident Wiley will ultimately commit to UMD, but Turge has always seemed to have a back-up plan in other, similar situations: Jerami Grant was the back-up plan for Jake Layman (or vice-versa), and Roddy Peters was the back-up plan for the Harrison twins.
Assuming Wiley wants to stay close to home, Maryland appears to be his best option; considering Tre Campbell committed to Georgetown. But there are several other, quality, non-local schools which have shown interest, including Florida, Miami and Cincinnati.
Personally, I'm pretty confident he'll wind up in College Park, but the fact that there seems to be a significant drop in talent for our back-up plan (whoever that might be)is a concern. Does anyone else feel the same? Or is Wiley a virtual lock, and it's just a matter of time before he commits?
