I was flipping through the ESPN recruiting pages to try and find some guys who Turgeon might try and pick up late in the process. This list won't have any potential transfers or grad students (see: Aronhalt), just players who have yet to sign. Each player will come with some excerpts from their scouting report.
Benji Bell (Grade: POST, 3*) 6-2, 185 -- Massanutten Military Academy
Strengths: "strong and physical point guard who competes on both ends of the floor" | "can hit the open mid range jumper and welcomes contact when he gets deep in the lane" | "an excellent defender especially on the ball where he applies attention getting pressure"
Weaknesses: "must work to continue to develop his left hand when being pressured" | "must be a more dependable shooter from behind the arc"
Comments: Only schools on his list right now are Cleveland State, Sam Houston State, and Northeastern. Familiarity with Damonte Dodd could be a big plus.
A.J. Riley (Grade: 72, 3*) 6-3, 180 -- La Lumiere School (Chicago, IL)
Strengths: "strong, tough and physical combination guard that gets to the rim on the break and is a match up problem inside the arc" | "good ball handler, passer and decision maker" | "capable of defending both guard positions"
Weaknesses: "a good not great athlete" | "must work to extend his shooting range to the arc"
Comments: Would definitely be an under-the-radar guy. Has a handful of offers, mostly from the midwest (including Creighton)
Martez Walker (Grade: 77, 3*) 6-5, 195 -- Pershing HS (Detroit, MI)
Strengths: "plays with emotion, energy and urgency and can get on a roll from beyond the arc" | "good passer especially on the move in the open court" | "his athletic ability to anticipate in the passing lanes"
Weaknesses: "must add strength and work on developing his right hand"
Comments: Has a handful of offers from bigger schools (Iowa State, Miami (FL), Temple). Would provide nice complement to Allen/Peters.
I'm sure there are more guys out there who could be looked at, but this was just a quick exercise in trying to find an extra guard. Thoughts?
