This post is a bit outside the usual scope of my writing but I have to recommend that any Maryland basketball fan who has the time should head over to to ESPN980's website, go into the audio vault for The Sports Fix and listen to the rebroadcast of their Lunch with a Legend with Lefty Driesell. This is an entertaining and insightful look at how Maryland basketball came to be an important program. They've edited out the commercials so each "hour" is actually a bit less than 40 minutes. Lefty is a terrific storyteller and if you want to hear how he recruited Tom McMillen, learn about the "riot" at South Carolina that preceded the Terps 32-31 upset in College Park, hear Lefty's thoughts about the great Len Bias, and more it will be well worth your time. For the older guys like me, you will find yourselves smiling and nodding a lot and you young whipper-snappers will undoubtedly learn a thing or two.
