I've been reading the various sites that follow Terps sports and I haven't been able to get very much new information on how well Dodd has played this year and what we can expect him to contribute to the team next year. After much searching I found out that he played in the Elite Showcase 4th annual All-Star Game. It was played on 3/24/2013 at Trinity University in DC. The video of the entire game is available at the following website: http://www.esbcbasketball.com/
Although I don't consider myself the most knowledgeable basketball mind out there, I can make a couple of observations about the game. First, like most all-star games there isn't very much team basketball and the ball was rarely tossed into the post for Dodd to work close to the basket. Mostly, it was players jacking it up from outside. As others have said about Dodd in the past, he shows his skills playing D and rebounding. I didn't find the stats for the game but I think that he had 9 or 10 blocks for the game, along with a pretty good number of rebounds. He had a couple of dunks where he really got some good elevation. I saw him try a couple of turn around jumpers from around 8-10 feet, on the baseline and he missed both of them. Overall I would say he is an athletic, quick jumper, who doesn't mind the contact. Still, when he gets to CP he will definitely need to work on an offensive game. Finally, I would say that he will be the best/quickest jumper on the entire team next year.
Two other players that caught my eye were Malcolm Johnson and Mario Matasovic. I Googled both of them and couldn't find much information on either of them. Johnson is a 6'5” forward and he was the leading scorer in the same and the MVP. They said he was going to Navy's prep school next year. He had a nice shot and just seemed to get it done. I don't know if he is committed to Navy long term or even if we would be interested, but he played well in the all star game. Matasovic is another European and I couldn't find much about him. It seems that this is his first year in the states. He is a 6'7” forward and he seemed pretty rugged. Can't really remember what he did in the game, but he just caught my eye.
