Profiles In Terpage - A Countdown to the Football Season: Christian Carpenter

Testudo Times's yearly football preview series returns, beginning with Maryland's back-up long snapper.

A recurring series where we will profile every player on Maryland's roster, counting down to kick-off against Florida International on August 31. Thanks to OBNUG for the idea.

It's almost April, so you know what time it is - time to learn about your back-up long snapper! We're back with Profiles in Terpage, our yearly football preview series where we will attempt to run through every player on Maryland's roster. The walk-ons will be bunched by position so you guys don't get too bored, but our hope is that you learn a little more about the team you support. This year, we're eliminating two categories - "Career Lowlight" and "Nightmare Season" - no reason for all that negativity.

High School Highlights:

How'd He Get to College Park?

Carp went to Brentwood with fellow Maryland specialist Nate Renfro, where he played on the defensive line and offensive line as well as taking care of the long-snapping duties. The Eagles finished in the top five in the states each of the four years he was there, and he ended up being recruited to Western Kentucky. Carp chose to walk-on at Maryland instead, where he will serve as the back-up long snapper.

Nickname:

"Carp"

Career Highlight:

The open spot for starting long snapper next year.

Dream Season:

Carp plays well enough in practice to solidify his spot as starter next year, eliminating any chance of a competition with an incoming freshman.

2013 Prospectus:

There's no real shot of Carp starting next year - Greg Parcher is a returning starter who did not have any real public issues at the position, and it's unlikely that the freshman will make a run on the senior's job. Instead, he should be focused on next season - with Parcher graduating, it's likely they'll bring in another walk-on long snapper to have the usual two on the roster. As a redshirt sophomore with two years in the program under his belt, it'll be his job to lose, and if he does well enough in practice this year, it won't even be a question.

Up Next:

(Remember, we will keep track of who gets these trivia questions correct - the first answer counts).

Our next player went to the same high school as a Big East All-Rookie honoree who went on to win a gold medal.
