Wicomico High School has qualified for the MPSSAA 2A state semifinal after their 60-40 East Regional final win over Joppatowne.
That means UMD football recruit Derrick Hayward will be playing at Comcast Center tonight at 9 pm. His Wi-Hi Indians will play Calvert in their quest to win legendary coach Butch Waller's second state title in basketball.
This is Hayward's first (and last) year of high school basketball. Waller lost five players to graduation and five players to transfer over the summer, and asked Hayward to give basketball a try. Hayward plays as a primarily defensive-minded center.
Good luck to the Indians tonight in their quest to qualify for the 2A title game on Saturday. Admission to the game is $8.
