First and foremost, what I like about next year is that Alex Len will be gone. The only thing better would be if he stayed, but only played in two games, wherein he destroyed the lottery picks he played against. But as that is not possible, I am very happy that he won't be tipping in the other team's winning baskets, or trying to steal passes instead of blocking shots, poking at rebounds with one hand, and generally lumbering around his sets without any energy or aggressiveness.
Next, I like Faust playing like the pimp we always knew he was. That goes for Dez too. If Tricky Nicky can play like he did the last few games this season, and Dez can continue to posterize the Justin Andersons of the NCAA (without turning it over), I will watch that.
I'm also looking forward to more fluidity and improvisation in the offense. Turgeon's offense this year was fairly rigid, which is terrible for attracting top recruits, and terrible to watch, but I think next year will have more run n gun with the addition of Smotch and Peters and a more acclimated Wells. From what I know of Smotch, or as I like to call him, the Mothman, he likes to improvise and get loose. Rowdy Roddy likes to run. And all of this year's freshmen will be more acclimated and more mature with better chemistry. To me, that means we won't need the rigid sets as much, because we'll be able to score by playing basketball like the other teams.
And in general, I think everyone will be able to shine a little more with Len gone. Layman looks like he will be pretty good. Charles might be my favorite though, just because he goes HAM, and truly cares about embarrassing people on the other team. He doesn't just want the rebound, he wants to rip it away from you, and then stare you down for a second. I think he has the most swag. If we had a point guard with half that swag, we'd destroy everyone.
Generally, I think everyone needs to up their swag game a lot -- that's probably what's missing more than anything else. Seth never wore a sleeve this season, let alone two, let alone two sleeves and leggings, and NO ONE wore a HEADBAND, EVERRRR. WTF. How are you gonna win games without headbands?? At least try it if nothing else is working. I'll give Turgeon one more year, then I vote Bruce Pearl, he's king of the headband/swag during timeouts to change game momentum.
