Don't worry about recruiting

Wanted to share this in regards to both basketball AND football recruiting, as I've seen some worry with both in regards to the commits decommitting from Maryland for basketball and with Jalen Tabor seemingly now uninterested in Maryland.

First, with basketball. Recruiting is so much more than W/L's. I see people all the time who don't really follow recruiting, assume that a kid commits off of results. That's just not true. I used to think that as well. Which is why I really doubted we'd land Prince and Tabor in football. I follow recruiting MUCH MORE now, and know, it's about so much more. It's about selling the program, giving a unique opportunity, showing how much you want him, which is big with a lot of these kids. It's often about making the kid feel wanted. Mark Turgeon and the staff sold Dion Wiley, Melo Trimble, Trayvon Reed, and Jared Nickens on the program and that they could achieve great things at Maryland. They believed them. While Maryland is struggling now, that doesn't mean the kids don't believe THEY still can't achieve success at Maryland. Alex Len going #5 in the NBA Draft was huge for Maryland as well. And they also wanted to go to Maryland. The want to go to a school also goes a long way. Our 7-5 start is not going to hurt us. These guys aren't decommitting. We'll be fine.

Now with football. Jalen Tabor is still interested in Maryland. He's loved Maryland through this whole process. And through this whole process, he's ALWAYS given a team a bump after his visit. This is a guy who loves taking the visits, and feeling wanted. And Maryland was on him from the start. And showed that. And have showed him he can be a local star with lots of love from the Maryland fanbase. Look at Diggs, and even Likely as well. That goes a long way. He's not getting that at Alabama or Arizona. And he also was just visited by Nick Saban. No matter how that visit goes, Alabama's targets always get a bump in favor of them after Saban visits someone. Just how it is. An example of this took place a week or two ago. Saban visited top LB and overall prospect Raekwon McMillan. McMillan had been very high on Ohio State throughout his whole process. Saban visited him. A flurry of predictions came in for Alabama. What happened? He committed to Ohio State. Tabor still likes Maryland. Maryland's made a great sales pitch. This is just how it's been his whole process. It's hard for him to leave home, Maryland's made a great pitch, and this is just how his recruiting process has been almost all year. Maryland's in a very good spot, and I'm still confident he commits to Maryland.

Recruiting on both fronts goes far beyond W/L's. It's not just about results. The basketball commits aren't decommiting. And don't panic with Jalen Tabor, or a Damien Prince. Maryland's in a good spot, and probably lands both. So sit back and relax. We'll be fine.

Go Terps.
