We finished the football regular season at 7-5 despite suffering numerous injuries, and did it with very few seniors. We also have a very good recruiting class coming in - with some luck it could be a great class (I'm talking to you, Mr. Prince and Mr. Tabor?) - which should help fortify some of our weaknesses. That's with one notable exception: Running back.
Brandon Ross has not been terribly impressive, IMO. Granted, a less-than-stellar offensive line probably had something to do with that, but that's an area which has been addressed pretty well through recruiting with Derwin Gray, Larry Mazyck and Jared Cohen the most notable (so far).
What we seem to be missing is a power runner; someone who can pick up a yard on third or fourth down 75% off the time, or punch it into the endzone from two yards out. That's not Brandon Ross; nor is it Albert Reid. I'm really hoping Wes Brown comes back about 15 or 20 pounds stronger after his suspension. He might be the solution. At this point, it's unlikely to come through recruiting, unless there's an off-the-radar JUCO bruiser out there somewhere.
Am I the only one thinking along those lines? Is there a chance Brown is our guy? Can Ross change his style of preferring to bounce everything outside? Can Reid be our tough-yard running back? Is it purely a matter of upgrading our o-line?
