There was a time where this fan base would not be asking to give these coaches another chance. Maryland football was 8-4 and winning a bowl game. Ralph had his ups and downs but was seeming to start to turn it around. We thought we could get Mike Leach or Gus Malzahn and there was hope that Terps football could take the next step. Randy Edsall came and as a fan base we let out a collective "!@#!@" In 3 years he has done nothing to change anyone's mind yet I read post after post of people defending him or asking to give him another year.
Basketball is a different animal. Gary won a national championship so even though most of us were unhappy with the program 8 years later we understood that the position was and should be his until he was done coaching. Mark Turgeon came and was a likable guy who made the tournament every year. It's been 3 years and we are still waiting for tournament #1. Everyone wants to give him the benefit of the doubt because he is an honest, seemingly good guy. I understand that. I want him to succeed more than Edsall. The unfortunate reality is as bad as Edsall is, he is a better coach than Turgeon. Turgeon is lost out there. He needs highly rated recruits to mask his inability to coach. His best future NBA player at A and M was Dandre Jordan. The write up on Jordan coming out of college was that he was a great athlete who could develop at the next level with coaching. Alex Len was drafted 5th based on the idea that he could become great with development and coaching.
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
When is enough going to be enough? When are we going to stop making excuses for these guys? Injuries happen to everyone. You should still be able to beat BC at home. Seth Allen shouldn't have been our best point guard option. He is a shooting guard who doesn't shoot the ball very well. His injury shouldn't set us back like it apparently has. That's a problem. Next year we have more shooting guards coming in. If Peters or Allen don't play point well enough do we give Turgeon another year to actually recruit a point guard? Hopefully the coaches turn it around. I would love to be wrong. I'm just getting tired of watching the same thing and expecting different results.
