Maryland's women's basketball team has been ranked eighth in the preseason AP Poll. It's slightly lower than the No. 6 designation they received from the Coaches' Poll earlier in the week.
The Terps should be a Final Four contender this year, as they have a young (but experienced team) held up by some bright stars, including All-World player Alyssa Thomas.
UConn unsurprisingly topped the poll, unanimously, and ACC rival Duke finished in second. Notre Dame is sixth and North Carolina is 12th, leaving the ACC tied for second with four Top 25 teams. The Big Ten also has four -- Penn State (No. 13), Nebraska (No. 17), Purdue (No. 18) and Michigan State (No. 20).
The Terps opened their season with a 110-34 exhibition win over Catholic, and play another exhibition game against Holy Family Saturday. Their regular season starts Friday, November 8, as they travel to face South Florida in Tampa.
