Maryland vs. Florida State score update: Terps trail 7-0

The Terrapins trail 7-0 on the road to Florida State after one quarter, but it could have been much worse. The Terrapin offense has struggled while Jameis Winston has looked pretty fantastic en route to the 7-0 Seminole lead.

Maryland let the opening kick go into the end zone for a touchback, and started their first drive with a ten-yard pass to Brandon Ross. After a five-yard run by Stefon Diggs, C.J. Brown took the zone-read himself and lost a yard. Brown found Levern Jacobs over the middle for a short gain, but it was not enough as the Terps were forced to punt.

Florida State started their drive with a screen pass for a first down as well, as Jameis Winston found Kenny Shaw on the left side for a nice gain. After two more completed passes for Winston, Devonta Freeman broke a 21-yard run down the left side. Maryland was able to force a third-and-nine after stopping Freeman and taking down Winston, but the quarterback was able to find tight end Nick O'Leary for ten yards and a big first down. Winston then completed a short pass to Freeman that brought them to the goal line, and Karlos Williams dove in for the score to make it 7-0 Seminoles.

Maryland's next drive began with a Will Likely kick return that brought the Terps near their own 35-yard-line. After a dropped pass by Stefon Diggs, Nigel King made his return with a first-down catch near midfield. The drive stalled again on a third down tipped pass, and Maryland was forced to punt it away.

The Terrapin defense was able to force a punt on Florida State's next drive, giving Maryland the ball near their own ten-yard line. Maryland, however, went three-and-out including a pass that Deon Long dropped behind him, and they punted the ball out past midfield.

FSU's next drive was a three-and-out as well, with the help of two bad snaps. On the first play of the Terps' ensuing drive, C.J. Brown found Deon Long for a 39-yard reception, and Maryland will have the ball in Florida State territory at the start of the second.
