How'd She Get to College Park?
Mincy was part of a heralded 2010 freshman class that included current teammates Alicia DeVaughn and Alyssa Thomas. She brought impressive credentials that included being named a Parade All-Ameican as a junior and McDonald's All-American honors as a senior. Led her high school to its first state championship and was named to the All-State team three times. Chose Maryland over Georgia, South Carolina, Rutgers, Miami, UNC, Connecticut.
Mincy came into her own in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. She led Maryland with 24 points and was second in rebounding with 7 in a second round NCAA Tournament win over Louisville and followed that with a career high in rebounding with 12 while adding 21 points in the Terps furious comeback win over Texas A&M in the Sweet Sixteen.
Laruin began to blossom and was second on the team in scoring as a sophomore averaging thirty-two minutes per game. A healthy Mincy will look to equal that production on a minutes played basis becoming the second scoring option behind Alyssa Thomas. She'll be the Nick Faust of the women's team using her length and athleticism to lock down the opposition's best perimeter player.
Mincy is that rare combination of a slasher with a soft outside touch who can break down defenses and open space for her teammates. She is also a tenacious perimeter defender who often guards the opponent's best outside threat. She will be part of a strong back court rotation and will compete for playing time with Brene Moseley, Lexi Brown, Chloe Pavlech, and Katie Rutan.
