This has been discussed many times before, but I thought yesterday it was especially noticeable that more than half the student section was empty after halftime. There were 2-3 showers during the game, with a pretty good one just as the first half was ending, but honestly. We're playing UVA for the last time as members of the ACC, we're locked in a 17-16 game, and the student section all but empties for the second half. I had a friend post on FB that he watched the game on television and said that the Terps didn't seem like they wanted the game as much as UVA, that UVA was more pumped up than us. I was seated right behind the Maryland bench, and I can honestly say that the crowd at Byrd in general is an unenthusiastic bunch. No noise, sitting down, not into the game, as if expecting that our team would find a way to lose. I find the crowd, especially on the press box side where I've had tickets to two games this season, is a lethargic bunch. How can we expect to give our team any type of advantage with little to no enthusiasm. It wasn't until there was 2 mins left in the game when the crowd FINALLY came alive. And then there's the student section. While pretty boisterous early in the game, when the game was on the line as UVA lined up to kick a game winning FG on the student section of the field, they were absent...pathetic.
