C.J. Brown out for Maryland's game against Virginia

Caleb Rowe will start for the Terrapins.

Maryland starting quarterback C.J. Brown will not play against in the team's game against Virginia Saturday after an injury suffered against Florida State last week.

Brown was listed as doubtful in the weekly injury report, but he has not yet been able to recover fully from the concussion. The junior was having a career year with 13 total touchdowns, and has averaged 10 yards per passing attempt and six yards per rush.

Instead, the Terrapins will turn to sophomore Caleb Rowe, who has averaged 6.8 yards per attempt this season. While Brown is a dual-threat, Rowe is clearly a pass-first quarterback, and the Terrapins' offense could see a boost in production from Stefon Diggs, who hasn't had his usual eye-popping numbers in the past few games.

Maryland missed a golden opportunity here to have a Red Out for the red-headed Rowe's start. He started one game last year as a true freshman, against Boston College -- a game the Terps lost 20-17 on the road.

The Terrapins' run attack will likely also look quite different, as well. While the zone read will probably still have its place, it will be toned down quite a bit from when Brown is quarterback. As a result, more standard runs will be used, which could see increased production from Brandon Ross and the Terrapin running back corps, who struggled mightily with the zone read in their first conference game last week.
