I was talking to my friend, a UK fan, while we watched the MD game yesterday, and when he mentioned how large Mitchell and Cleare were, I mentioned that they had actually cut a lot of fat since they got to the campus. We then moved on to discussing the muscle mass Len had put on and the number of calories he had consumed over the summer, and he pointed me to this article by Calipari: http://www.coachcal.com/19314/2012/12/lets-focus-on-rules-that-matter-and-let-our-kids-eat/
So comparing that to Prewitt's blog post a few weeks back on Terrapins Insider on the Terps customized diets, I began to wonder if we were going to see some of the same negative effects from limitations on calories provided to students. I'm not familiar with the mealplan system at UK, nor am I familiar with how the athletes at Maryland get their food, so I was wondering if anyone here might have more insight. Anybody know how the Terps get their food? Is this an actual problem for our athletes as well? Is this even a real issue as well or is Calipari just whining as usual? Is Len still getting 6,000 calories a day?
