Hey y'all (my ga twang). Just a quick informative fan post to let you guys know about an interesting convo I had with a former techie and current classmate who worked for their basketball team.
Well I'm currently in grad school pursuing a masters in sports administration at georgia state university and setting next to me in our first week of class is a Hokie alum who was on the tech BB staff the past four years. Upon finding out that I grew up in Alexandria VA and a huge terp fan our conversation proceeded to acc basketball and Alex Len.
Apperantly he's good friends with Eshan. He then proceed to inform me that Alex wanted to follow rob & took a couple unofficial visits to tech and was actually favoring them over md. He said it never went through due to the fact that they (va tech) were unable to verify his transcripts because they were all in ukrain. He also said tech's academic requirements for athletes are more stringent than marylands and they backed off due to the possibility of the program getting penalized for any infraction(s) regarding Alex's classes.
He did say Maryland landed an absolute gem in Len. Here are some direct quotes from him during our convo:
"I remember when Alex came on his unofficial. I hung out with him at our gym and he can shoot! For a 7 foot plus guy the most impressive thing I saw from him was his stroke."
"Alex didn't know how to speak a word of English, but when we saw him run the court our jaws dropped. There is no way a guy as young, as tall, as agile, & coordinated as him doesn't get picked in the lottery in an NBA draft."
Based on our conversation he knew his [acc]basketball & he's working as grad assistant on GA St's basketball team.
Though He mentioned some other things regarding Len and acc BB those comments suck out the most to me. I know some of this info may not be news to a marjority of terp die hards, but I felt inclined to share. I apologize for any typos, wrote this on the old handy iPad which can be uncooperative at times. Also I hope this is fan post appropriate.
thanks va tech for stopping your recruitment of Alex Len during the brutal summer of 2011.
