First of all, let me say that I would *love* to see Dez Wells in a Terps uni when we play Kentucky in a couple months. But let me throw this out as a topic for debate: If Wells is only here for one season, do we want that season to be 2012-2013, or 2013-2014?
To complete the scenario - and a not-so-far-fetched one - I'm assuming the twins become Terps beginning in 2013, and Len turns pro after this coming season. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this 2013 roster: Andrew and Aaron Harrison; Wells; Nick Faust; Shaquille Clear; Jake Layman; Evan Smotrycz; Charles Mitchell; Damonte Dodd; Sam Cassell, Jr; Seth Allen; and PeShon Howard. That leaves one open scholarship for Peters, Jordan, or whomever Turge sees fit.
If Wells becomes eligible this season, we'll have a *very* solid - but inexperienced - team. I think we'd be a virtual lock for the NCAA tournament, but is it a Final Four team? I doubt it. And if Wells declares for the NBA after this season we would lose a critical piece of the puzzle when we improve in terms of talent *and* experience in 2013.
If Wells doesn't play until the 2013 season, Shaq, Layman, Mitchell, SCJ and Seth would have a year of experience (and work in the weight room), with Wells, the twins, Faust, Smo, Pe' and Dodd.
I'm just curious about what everyone thinks: Are our Natty chances improved if Wells doesn't become eligible until the 2013 season?
