Notre Dame Joining the ACC in Everything But Football, But Will Play 5 ACC Teams Each Season

290

Just when the Conference Expansion Mill had slowed down, ESPN is reporting that Notre Dame will be joining the ACC in all sports except football, but will play five ACC teams in football each season. So, they're pseudo joining in football, but maintaining their ability to schedule additional non-ACC opponents. It's interesting, because Notre Dame basically did this last year when they played Wake, Maryland, Boston College, Florida State and soon to be ACC member Pitt. Maybe a trial run? Notre Dame wants out of the Big East ASAP. Whether that happens after this season or not, you have to imagine that ND will be willing to cough up a big exit fee to leave in time for the 2013 season. But what does that mean for scheduling, basketball wise? Will the ACC try to add another school in all sports and then recruit a basketball only member, like Villanova? It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. For now, just drool at how awesome ACC basketball and lacrosse will be now. Insane.
