Xavier Transfer Dezmine Wells to Wrap Up Visits This Weekend

by Paul Seaver

The updated news swirling around Xavier transfer Dezmine Wells is expected to spiral into early next week.

Wells, a 6-foot-5 wing, was expelled from the university last week for a violation of the school’s student code of conduct. No charges were filed, but Wells has since begun looking for a new team.

Some rumored teams have come and gone already, but looking ahead, visits will be aplenty this weekend.

Wells left Kentucky on Friday after a two-day visit, but given the fact that he left Lexington without giving the Wildcats a commitment, more than likely means that he will choose to play elsewhere.

On Friday, Wells will visit Memphis before heading to Maryland on Saturday. ESPN‘s Dave Telep tweeted on Friday morning that both Ohio State and Oregon were also expected to receive visits from the athletic wing man.

However, Telep then tweeted later in the day that Ohio State was out, and only Oregon would receive a visit from Wells following his trips to Memphis and Maryland.

Judging by Telep’s tweet, Wells will likely make a decision once he returns home next week, either Monday or Tuesday, depending on his visits. However, given the uncertainty and evolution of the past week or so, nobody should be surprised if Wells commits on-the-spot at any of the schools that he visits.

The loss of Wells leaves Xavier and head coach Chris Mack searching for a way to replace their top returning scorer from a season ago. As for the team that will eventually land Wells, they are getting a top-notch talent and former top-100 recruit that still has three years of eligibility remaining.

It remains up in the air over whether or not Wells would appeal for a waiver to play this season. If not, he would be eligible for the 2013-14 season.

Wells averaged 9.8 points per game last season.
