Its been a while since I've last posted, longer since my last fanpost. I've been watching from afar just to stay updated on our favorite school, otherwise I've been too busy to post anything. Following today's injury report adding on to the news from last week, I decided to post something that may be a little encouraging.
Na'ty Rodgers is without a doubt our biggest target left on the board. After him is Michael Parker whose recruitment is about as strange as I've seen. Both are consensus 4-star players at their respective positions. Rodgers would be a bigger get not because he is rated higher, but for a number of reasons. One, he is a Maryland guy and highest rated remaining one at that. His commitment would help further the DMV movement that has taken shape, not saying Parker doesn't but not as much as Rodgers. Two, he fills a position of need as an Olineman. I think he will end up being a guard in college, just imagine an front line consisting of GRAY-BRIGHAM-CONABOY-RODGERS-MADARAS, I know to good to be true. This might not be as farfetched as it seems though.
About a month ago news broke that he has chosen a top 5. When it broke no one expected UMD to be on that list, for good reason too, when it was first announced it was ARK, OKLA, S.CAR, UW, and Clemson. Then something changed within about an hour of announcing the first list, Clemson out-Maryland in. It was a bit exciting but no one really took it serious, in fact many believed that he only did it to show some respect to the local school. In any case it was obvious that Maryland had some road to gain. Then about a week or so ago FlaTerp posted about a Rivals article saying Rodgers has 2 schools on top, one of them being UMD. This was big news considering how far we had to go, from barely 5th to #1 or #2 in less than a month is shockingly good. Of course, Maryland still has SC, who has been deemed the leader since spring, to deal with and 3 other schools still very much in the hunt. With him supposedly not announcing until NSD, anything could happen. Turns out, that last thought couldn't have been anymore appropriate. Yesterday, on his twitter he stated, " I made my decision" and " I still need to see one school but after my 1st 3 officials im done". Now, Rodgers isn't an attention grabber so I doubt he would do this to gauge a reaction from fans on twitter, but who knows if he is serious or kidding or whatever. Then today, special thanks to Seaville81 for bringing this to the light, Mike Farrell said he believes "Rodgers will be a Terp". Rivals has been all over this recruitment, more so than any other site. Mike Farrell, being the recruiting coordinator for Rivals, one of the best if not THE best in the recruiting world. There probably isn't a more credible source. Farrell's predictions are usually accurate or he isn't far off. Seeing how much ground we have made up, and the lead analyst/reporter for the best football recruiting site say he thinks he's a Terp. We should always take recruiting news with a big grain of salt, especially if its from twitter, but its hard not to be optimistic. He said he will take his first 3 officials, question is: what are the 3 schools? Unless something changed we know Maryland and SC are 2, IMO the third school is ARK. He hasn't announced the dates of the officials so he still could wait til signing day, but chances are if he is only taking 3 OV's then it will probably be before then. I'm very optimistic than we can land Rodgers, especially after these developments. But we can't leave SC out of this, we have made up alot in this race but SC was/is so far ahead that I'm not sure we can catch up.
Maybe I'm over thinking things and need to lay off the Terp flavored Kool-AID. But Stefon Diggs is proof enough of what I said above, anything can happen. Good night, GO TERPS
