If my math is correct, there are 25 business days -- starting today -- until NC State kicks off against Tennessee in Atlanta on Friday, Aug. 31. In those 25 days, I will give you 25 reasons to be excited about ACC football this year. This list will feature names, games, themes, position groups -- 25 things for you to look forward to. We’ll kick it off today with No. 25.
Let the countdown begin …
No. 25: A fresh start at Maryland. Everyone -- not just Terps fans -- should be thrilled we’re not going to watch Maryland muck through another 2-10 season this year. At least one would THINK it'll be better than that. The schedule is certainly conducive to a strong start, and the program should finally have players who want to be there. More than two dozen players have left since Randy Edsall was hired, but those who are still on the roster have been working hard this offseason to make sure 2011 was an anomaly. Maryland also has one of the most talented players in the country in defensive tackle Joe Vellano. Who would have thought that a defensive lineman would be the face of Maryland’s program this year? There might not be a lot of stars on this roster just yet, but what Maryland needs right now more than anything is a clean slate, and it’s just around the corner.
