WaPo: Maryland football recruiting making in-roads at Friendship Collegiate

Which everyone's already known for some time now, but hey, this is how narratives start, and narratives are self-perpetuating. We're not far off from this being a real story from the Post; land a few more and suddenly ESPN has a story on it, and then all the kids that come through Friendship will have this whole "FCA -> UMD" trend ingrained in them from all angles. Anyway: Maryland's offered five FCA players already, and it's likely to expand to seven in the near future. They have great chances with Derwin Gray and Cavon Walker, a fighting chance with Yannick Ngakoue, and Jalen Tabor is ... well, Jalen Tabor. But this type of relationship-building - which, make no mistake, is a concerted effort - is something that Fridge never really got. (Or maybe he did - always took someone from DeMatha, after all - but he just may not've been very good at it.) I'm not sure Edsall really gets it either, but someone on the staff does and that's good enough for me. Now let's just hope Aazaar Abdul-Rahim, FCA's head coach, doesn't get poached by N.C. State or someone as a secondary coach. But I no longer want him on the staff, necessarily; he can be a much bigger help there than he can be in College Park.
