After hitting a tough skid over the past few weeks, the Maryland baseball team bounced back at home this weekend, taking 2 of 3 from NC State, who had been 8-4 in the ACC and ranked #17 in the nation. Their lineup is full of high school All-Americans and their rotation features the two best pitchers in the ACC. Maryland beat Ethan Ogburn (#2 in the ACC in ERA) Friday night, 4-0. LHP Jimmy Reed made his first career start and went 8 shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits. Reed had been Maryland's closer and had been too dominant to leave in the bullpen. He now makes Maryland's weekend rotation one of the best in the league. The Terps only loss came Saturday against the #1 pitcher in the league, Carlos Rodon. They were even able to score a couple runs off him and played better than the 17th ranked Wolfpack all weekend.
If you haven't had a chance to watch this year's baseball team, make a point of doing it. They're much better than they've been in years past and with the amount of seniors on their pitching staff, this might be the one year where they're relevant. They're now sporting a 21-13 record and host Duke this weekend. By the way, they have the best staff ERA in the ACC.
