Well, Kentucky and Calipari finally got what they wanted a National Championship. After years of cheating and sanctions left at previous employers, John Calipari finally sold his soul or cashed in from selling it years ago and got Kentucky another Natty. I think this is absolutely shameful for Wildcat faithful, because if Calipari's track record holds true all of this years accomplishments will be taken away and sanctions will be handed down to the University.
You ask, what does this mean for Maryland??? Well according to CHARLOTTE, Calipari has achieved the one thing that alluded him which is a National Title, granted he opened the check book to do so at each stop, but it finally paid dividends. This means that Calipari will be jumping to the NBA and take a HC and Owner position. This should impact the recruiting interest of the Harrison Twins greatly since the coach will be gone and surely the NCAA will be knocking at the door soon enough. I still think the Harrisons will go to UK.
Recent decommitment of Sam Cassell Jr. is raising some eyebrows on really what is going on with his recruitment and who is truly making the decisions? SCJ and Notre Dame Prep HC both confirmed he pledged his commitment to Maryland and then the elder Sam Cassell voiced he is not made up his mind and apparently Junior obeyed. I hate when parents get involved in recruiting. Also, in Football Maryland landed a huge recruit commit from Michael Parker a flexible and talented defensive player who is a legit 4 star last week only to have the second occurance of a parent interfere with a Terps commitment.
You ask what does this mean for Maryland??? Well I'm glad you asked this means that for some reason the Parents dont have the love for the Terps. I guess we don't pay as well as Kentucky...that's not a joke either. I hate getting happy about a recruit committment and then we end up not having one. I think the NCAA seriously needs to review the policy on commitments since it does effect the team and other targets. Not so much in Football as Basketball due to the numbers, but still it effects if a recruit commits and the snowball effect occurs.
I think Maryland will bounce back in both sports, but it seems to get harder for an honest program to achieve the heights that both Alabama has in football and Kentucky has in Basketball because in my opinion there is money and impermissible benefits being tossed around. Obviously given the financial state of Maryland Athletics I highly doubt any boosters or alumni will be throwing money to recruits since the department is in such desperate need for cash. I will leave you with this FEAR THE TURTLE!!!
