Shabazz, Noel & what it means for us

So after the dust cleared from yesterday's signing day, we saw Shabazz commit to UCLA and Nerlens Noel to UK. This means a few things for us:

  • We will get an up close and personal look at Noel and the rest of the Wildcats Nov. 9 in Brooklyn. After seeing Noel trying to recruit Oriakhi on Twitter as soon as he committed, I don't think they are done bringing in talent for next year. Word is they are still in hard on Anthony Bennett (#7 on ESPN, top remaining target) and might still be in for Amile Jefferson. My take- bring 'em on, if you're going to play Kentucky, it's best to do it first game of the year before they really start to gel. No one will really be giving us a chance in that game (UK will be preseason top 5), so it's pretty much a nothing to lose game for us. Win the game and that's huge, lose the game and our guys get some great big game experience. But man it would be sweet to win that game, can't think of a better way to start the season than beating PayPal Cal.
  • Duke continues to struggle to bring in top talent. After whiffing on Shabazz and Noel, the rat will now look to bring in Amile Jefferson and/or find some transfers that can play right away. Jefferson will most likely end up at NC State or Duke, so at this point it's pick your poison for him. As far as transfers, I know they are after Rodney Hood of Miss St. and wouldn't be surprised if rat has some other things up his sleeve. Regardless, Duke is going to be very beatable next year.

As far as MD's recruiting is concerned, I'm really hoping we get SCJ back in the fold. I'm not sure what the latest is on him, but it's been eerily quiet regarding his recruitment. Don't know if that is good or bad but would think we'd need a decision soon. All along I've felt the SCJ is a much better player than his ranking suggests, and seeing how our class ranking jumped from #19 to #15 with him on board (and back to #19 when he decommitted) ESPN seems to agree. In comparison, getting Mitchell took us from #22 to #19.

If SCJ doesn't work out, will be interesting to see if the staff goes after a Darrick Wood or a Jerron Wilbut. Seems like those ships have sailed, but as we know, we really have no idea.

Oh- I almost forgot! One last thing, I'd like to start the BOBBY PETRINO for head coach of Maryland Football movement. He's no boy scout but talk about a guy who could get our program going...(I know this has no chance of happening with General Kevin Anderson in charge but humor me)
