With a large recruiting class coming in and his playing time relatively limited even among nine scholarship players, should sophomore-to-be Ashton Pankey transfer, possibly back to the NYC area as has been rumored? (Iona, Fordham, LIU-Brooklyn, Manhattan)
Let's take a look at the Terps roster including recruits (with a *) and excluding walk-ons.
Let's assume that the starting lineup is as follows: Howard/Stoglin/Faust/Padgett/Len. The first players off the bench would almost certainly be Cleare, Parker (who developed an expanded role late in the year), Allen, and Layman. Even if Charles Mitchell does redshirt, a nine-man rotation is generally about as deep as many teams go. If Mitchell gets freshman playing time, that may bump Pankey down even further. Another possibility for the Terps could be bringing in Alex Oriakhi for his senior year, a move which would improve the roster for 2012-13 without taking away any future scholarships.
In all, it seems that Ashton Pankey's number may be up in College Park. Thoughts?
