The quarterfinals of the Women's basketball tournament began today, and the Lady Terps start their 2012 conference run tonight versus Virginia.
Maryland comes in at the 3 seed after a strong regular season. They play the 6th seed (UVA) tonight at 8; the game can be seen on CSN for locals (unsure about others). Maryland brings in the recently-awarded ACC POY in Alyssa Thomas, and should be the favorite to win tonight, but more importantly, they are now looking like the favorite to win the whole tournament.
The #2 seed Miami is struggling right now against Wake Forest and in earlier today DOOK LOST. We have a strong team that, at the finish of this Miami-Wake game should be the top remaining seed left. A tournament win should carry us right into the NCAAs where will should be looking at a top 2 seed in our bracket if we can pull this off.
I'm admittanly not a fan of Women's basketball, and would much rather watch women's soccer or field hockey, but it's hard not to get excited about a conference championship and a title to hold over dook for this season, regardless of sport.
UNC lost to GT by a single point earlier today. The rest of the tournament information can be found at http://www.theacc.com/championships/12-acc-womens-basketball-tournament.html
