Saturday matinee upset? Saturday matinee upset.
Game is on ESPN, tipping at 4:00. That should mean basically everyone can watch it; your only other kosher option is going to be ESPN3. I'm sure some other streams will pop up after a bit, of course. For the news-y side of things, sounds like Harrison Barnes is good to go; he was fine after today's shoot-around. Hopefully he'll at least be limited.
Random, Baseless Prediction: Maryland's second-leading scorer tonight: Ashton Pankey. Nick Faust is third, FWIW. So something either went very right or very wrong.
Prediction: A lot like the Duke game: Maryland isn't the better team and almost certainly won't win, though I can still think of a path to victory. (It involves Harrison Barnes and Kendall Marshall both not playing, though.) Anyway, Heels by 11.
Guessing game: Pe'Shon Howard points plus assists, with turnovers as the tiebreaker. My volley: 11, with 2 TOs. Go.

I think the problem with Maryland not getting enough calls is that they initiate so much contact that refs feel like they can’t call all of it. College refs like to keep their whistles quiet anyway.

For what its worth there are a few actions (that are fouls) that teams including UNC are using to stop Terrell
He is gets a lot of hand checking. It negates his quickness, those great head and shoulder fakes, and his stop and go moves. Defenders gurading him also force their way through picks and screens even if Terrell beats them to the spot. Then, when he beats defenders, others step into him as tries to penetrate. Those bumping fouls only happened a couple of times today but everyone on Miami seemed to take a shot at him.
Still not watching the game so there is still hope we win this.

offering the kid. Granted, he is the best PG we got, but I’m not a fan. We needed someone more talented in that class and the HOFer whiffed. Pe is the type of kid that should be on the bench as a frosh/soph and given time to develop. His talent level is mediocre but by his jr/sr year he might be decent ACC level PG.
Not saying we lost cuz of Pe but every time I’ve seen him play I’ve been underwhelmed.

Marshall had 16 assists and Howard had none? How does that haopen for a point guard? He played 32 minutes.

i get so sick of the complete lack of respect for maryland and overt favoritism towards duke and unc. the ncaa needs to look into acc corruption because there is definitely something there, whether there is university or conference leadership influence or even just a personal bias of all the refs.
btw it did look like roy apologized to turge for henson being a total thunderc*nt

and shot LESS FT’s. Duh. Were there bad calls? Sure. That wasnt why we lost though.

Halfway through the second half we had Mosley w/ 4, Len, Pank, Faust, Pe’ all with three. They had Zeller w/ 3, that’s it.
Uh The calls took our center who was playing great out of the game....and there were a bunch of others..
Could we have won otherwise…sure….
Did the fouls called against us cost us the game…I think they had a major role in the outcome…

We shot 20-27 from the line against the best FT defense guys, be happy with that. I think the reffing was about the best we can hope for against UNC. He’s right, we just needed to score, but were too gassed to do anything.

Well
Maryland was the aggressor today and that was he thing about duke, was that when we played them they toook it to us, so we didnt get the calls.
Now today we took it to UNC and right as we were about to pull away, started calling every foul on us down and took the momentum right from us.

Like I said, I’m not saying we lost cuz of Pe. That was a good game for him. I’d like a PG that could blow past people and make open jumpers with consistently (and of course pass & manage a game) I was pissed when he sprawled out on the possibly illegal pick. He wasn’t hurt and needed to get up and help defend.
Granted...a lot of good passes were fumbled away which is why he had a few TO's
That said…Peshon is not the starting PG for a top tier ACC…..it’s as simple as that..He’s a very good backup

If Stogs continues to grow
Then next year we might be seeing more of the Stogs/Faust backcourt with Pe’ off the bench. Stogs has been passing well the last few games.
Its pretty damn clear
that the acc is makin a statement to us. I dont see the other acc games where the refs are this inconsistent.

We were totally a different team today—scrappy plays, diving at balls, putting in the effort. It really looks like Turge fired them up, maybe a carryover from getting tossed. If we can play this well in future games, we should get a few more in the W column.
We play like we did today...
And I’d like to have those State and FSU games back. I still think we get at least 3 more wins.
