expecatations for football next year
Bleacher Report not very high on our football team for next year, but this is also some pretty bad journalism. How realistic should our expectations be for next year? I'm not expecting an ACC Championship by any means, but a bowl game is more than realistic in my opinion. especially if we get diggs

Try Research before posting...
Clearly Carl Stine did some heavy research for this article… “The Terps are losing star defender Kenny Tate” WOW!!!
tate
Kenny is a huge mystery…last season he got hurt but it seemed like it was a week to week decision whether he was going to play…in some games he was even warming up before the game and now Edsall says he may not be ready until August?
There have been reports by many defending the move to LB
That Tate had some undisclosed injury last summer while playing (basketball?), that severely hampered his speed. I never saw anything official come out about it, and I’m not sure if we ever got a reason out of Edsall for him being on IR. That being said, it could be any number of things, but that is a long period of recovery that usually suggests a torn ligament in the knee or perhaps an Achilles problem if it is a leg injury. If that is the case, I sure as hell he either (a) makes a full recovery to the speed needed at safety or (b) is bulking up to play some more LB.
If Tate had a serious injury over the summer...
…why not take a medical RS for the whole year? During Spring ball Tate-as-a-LB was one of the things RE discussed at length. He SEEMED to be at full speed – or acceptable FB speed during the Miami Game and still was getting plowed over at times and missed a few tackles. Had he played one incremental game his college career would be over.
I’m not saying he is faking anything, but I have a hard time even with my criticism of RE, that he would knowingly play anyone that he knew was injured. I don’t buy it; I think we saw Tate play at least a few games at full health and the position change did not work.
I wish him a full and speedy recovery from the injurym but hope that he flourishes (again) at FS.

Expectations : Warning Do NOT Read this post if you have have a soft skin or a man crush on Randy
Bare minimum expectations for a guy who is being paid $2M are to get this team back to the level it was (9 wins ) within 3 years max….before last year I think everyones expectations were that we should have been there already but since last year was putrid, I am giving him an extra year and this year, he needs to show significant progress such as 7 wins….
Looking at the schedule, it appears that there are only 3 games that will be very tough for us to win (FSU, CLEM, WVU)…..every other game should be a W for us
If after 3 full seasons, he cant give back to UMD a team of the caliber he inherited, then he should resign and stop taking $2M per year from Maryland
I agree with you on your expectations
that 9 wins after THREE years should be the goal. I just wish you would start acting like it is a three year plan as opposed to a one year plan.
Because
It was never SUPPOSED to be a 3 year plan…..we are forced into a 3 year plan because of what he did with the team last year…….
I hope he improves significantly……
In the 100 Years of UMD football, there have been only 3 coaches (besides Randy) who have won 2 or fewer games in their 1st season…..and NONE of them were ultimately successful (Mont, Ward and Vanderlinden)…..lets see if Randy can break the streak

He could turn it around....
…although I suspect that if the team does return to winning ways it is more of an “in spite of RE” sort of situation. He still needs to replace the Special Teams coordinator as well.
But it only became a 3-year plan after the f-ing Temple game. Before that it was a 2-year plan….

8 wins and a bowl victory?
Bowl Victories are hit and miss to me. Like I agreed with you on the earlier posts, 8 wins is a reasonable expectation.
"A new era has dawned in Maryland Athletics..."
If we don't win more than...
…two games next year, I’m going to be pissed. Anything more than four wins is gravy.

8 wins...
I think Edsall has to win at least 7 to keep his job…I think he will win 8 or 9 to get people back on board with him…same thing Ralph used to do…win just enough to keep people happy, but never really win anything
Expectations
7-6 is bare minimum for RE to keep his job. (6-6 regular seson, 1 bowl win or 7-5, bowl loss, either works)
If DOB returns to Frosh year form and we move Kenny back to safety we could easily have 3 all-acc performers (Vellano obviously unless he is hurt). 8-5 would make me happy.
4-7 and I think KA does the math and
RE keeps his job anyway (and points to improvement). You’d like to think that UMD has rebounded from bad years in a big way recently . . . it’d be great to see the Terps bowl bound and near the top of the ACC again, but I don’t see how you do it with the 7th rated recruiting class in the league – doesn’t that mean the guys ahead of you just pulled even farther ahead?
There's more to it than just a recruiting class...
1) if we have fewer serious injuries, we should be better…
2) if we have less contension in the lockerroom, we should be better
3) if our offense can keep the defense off the field longer, we should be better
4) if we go to a pro-style offense, we should be better
5) if our receivers can catch the ball more consistently, we should be better
6) if our special teams improve we should be better
I don’t think 7 regular-season wins is out of the realm of possibilities…
