A star is born
I follow this website and I read the local sports papers. I don't understand the damning faint praise accorded to Terrell Stoglin. Terrell is the next banner in the making. He is a star of the first magnitude.
So what that he took 20 3's against Miami. He took 9 of those during the span of time that the Terps were behind Miami in the second half. He made 4 of them which is a good percentage given how closely he is marked. Given the situation it was the shot to take. He struggled with his free throws against Va Tech but had regained his perfect stroke against Miami. He will shoot around 50 per cent from 3 against Carolina. He will because he is Terrell
There are kids in the process of becoming Terp fans for whom Terrell will be the one just like a John Lucas or a Len Bias or a Juan Dixon or a Greivis Vasquez will always be the the one for us.

He is a star...no doubt
I’ve been contending that, this year especially, sometimes TStog has no choice but to take shots because we have no one else who will step up and make shots and when we need them. When he makes good passes, our other guys can’t convert. After a while, he has to say WTF….and just try to do it himself.
It will be fun to see how he handles things next year when he has more options to go to (Cleare, Layman and even Allen). It’s always fun to see these new, young kids come to our program and show their personalities (some never do). I’m a TStog fan for sure but I love the TERPS anyway…win or lose.
GO TERPS!!!
I don't have a problem with Terrell shooting 18-19 3-pointers
if he makes at least 33% of them. Terrell going 6-19 from 3 is the same as Alex Len or James Padgett going 9-19 from 2-point land. It’s still 18 points. I just want to continue to see the game come to Terrell when he’s shooting those 3s instead of trying to create his own shot and forcing up something that really has no chance of going in. I think Terrell has gotten better at this over the past few games.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves
That is some lofty company that you’re throwing the kid into. The main difference between those players and Stoglin is that they won while putting up great numbers. Stoglin’s numbers have come without the wins. Greivis never made it that far in the tournament so perhaps he would be a good comparison with Stoglin. However, he still delivered in some big time situations. His almost triple double his freshman year at Duke when the Terps swept them that season. Or his triple double against UNC his junior year that made an NCAA birth possible. Right now Stoglin is putting up big numbers because there’s just no one else. If he’s still putting up great performances when we have more talent and are contending for seeding in the tournament in the next few years this discussion can be revisited.
Sophomores
Lets remember the Comcast crowd booing Vasquez during his sophomore year for taking bad shots. The situations are very similar. Both Stoglin and Vasquez are the primary scorers with little help around them. I see very similar paths for both players.

that is lofty company
but he is well on his way there. he’s breaking records and not looking to slow down. more power to him. but shooting 3’s instead of pounding down low against a team with a 6’ 8 center who rides the bench…? -yeah i’ll always have an issue with that. he’s playing really well right now, but he can also play a lot smarter too.
