Friday Recruiting Nugget - Marcus Derrickson - 2015

I forgot to mention one player I highly recommend that I hope the staff is beginning to follow, or will soon start the relationship with - Marcus Derrickson '15 of Paul VI. Yeah its early, but I want to get his name out for us to follow - and he'll be part of the local recruiting batlle by next year latest.

It slipped my mind because Marcus didn't do a whole bunch in Tuesday night's game, but Derrickson is one to watch - now. He had 11 and 8 vs. DeMatha (I'm sure coach noticed :), and already 235 lbs and a legit 6'7", I think he will be a bigger version of Kris Jenkins because even as a frosh, he has a sweet 3 Pt. stroke.

Another side note - for those who don't know, Paul VI HC is Glenn Farello, long time (9 HC, 5 Asst HC) coach for 14 years at Eleanor Roosevelt HS.

Extra Note: Marcus played in a "Super 16" National Freshman game this past October. It included players from St. Benedict's, St. Patrick's, Bishop Gorman, and other perennial powers.

And, oh yeah, like Stan Robinson, he's from PGC - Bowie.

bigger version of Kris Jenkins?

Hope you mean height and not weight, haha. All joking aside, he seems to have a better height for a face up 4 that can stretch it to the 3 point line than Jenkins does.

The only thing that concerns me about Jenkins is his weight, since he appears to be a 3 with a 4/5s weight. If he can slim it down in the off-season I’m all for taking him. I’m not sure how his stamina would hold up at the D1 level with that weight, or if he would have the lateral quickness to guard a 3. I haven’t seen a bunch of tape though, so he could have it and my arguments are completely invalid.

I would guess Jenkins would be a 3

if his team mainly plays a zone – the match-up zone could work for him quite well. But if Hendrickson grows even an inch, he’ll prolly fill out a bit more and be a solid 4, as Jenkins might be. Jenkins may just have some trouble vs. teams that have really big lineups.

Paul IV

Has Stan Robinson who the Terps just offered and is probably coming to UNC game this weekend.

He’s a 6’3" combo/PG who also plays for Takeover I believe.
