Men's BBALL, 2011-12 Season a Success or Failure???

I know there has been many debates on this year's team and I was talking to a buddy of mine and we both came out to the same conclusion for the 2011-2012 Terps Bball team. This team has overachieved with an asterisk. With the question marks coming into this season of having a depleted roster, two seniors, only having 8 scholarship players(7 in my book with Weijs being an absolute joke), new HC and Assistants, losing JWill arguably the best player, Len's 10 game suspension, and Peshon's broken ankle which was pretty much a 10 game absense; this was a ton to overcome. Standing at 16-12 overall and 6-8 ACC mark, this has been a successful season in my opinion considering the circumstances. If you add the fact we lost Pe for the rest of the year after the Clemson game which left us with no true PG depth on our roster this has been a highly successful season.

Now understand me right, I am not saying I'm happy with this year because I expect a NCAA bid every year. I understand why this year an NCAA bid is not reasonable due to the factors listed above. Bilas gave Turge a boost of confidence in mentioning how good of a coach he is, but I think everyone with half a brain for basketball knows that Turge has done an excellent job this year. Up to this past weekend, the team has beat the teams they should have and lost to the teams they should. The GT loss is much worse then anyone has acknowledged. This would have allowed Maryland to finish .500 in the league with one win in the final week. This also would have allowed for a potential NCAA birth with a split in the last week and a deep run in the ACC tourney, now we have to win the automatic bid to play in March Madness.

The Terps have competed pretty much in every game up to a certain point especially against the tougher teams. This should be a good sign for things to come. Turge has been criticized about being to direct about his players, but apparently many respond to it. If Stogs and company stay since many have speculated that Stogs is gone and Pankey is leaving, then with the class coming in next year Maryland could be a 3rd-5th best team in the league, easily.

Given the circumstance surrounding the team this year, what are your thoughts as the season is ending this week, happy, sad, mad, its all Gary's fault, the Harrisons will save us all??? Im suprised at how well the team has played considering the circumstances and Im happy that Mark Turgeon is our head coach for hopefully many years.
