Sam Cassell Jr blowing up
Zags reporting that Cassell Jr is getting a lot of phone calls these days. We were ahead of the game. Hopefully that is a good sign and we can get him if we still want him.
"The 6-foot-2 Cassell Jr. went for 40 points last Friday against Winchendon and is now hearing from UConn, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, USF, UCF, Washington, Maryland and Seton Hall, Hurd and Cassell Jr. said."

I'd rather pass and get a pass first PG in 2013
He is another combo guard. We have 2 combo guards starting, with another coming in Seth Allen.
We need a true PG
he will make everyone else a better scoring option. We either need that or a true scorer who can create their own shot. Stoglin was second behind Mike Bibby in scoring in the state of Arizona. He is a prolific scorer. I dont think we are recruiting such a player. Either give me one of those or give me a true PG. With a true PG I would imagine that player like Faust and Parker would suddenly become much better scoring options.

I think pretty much everyone would benefit from a good distributor.

Blake/Hayes
We need a second/third coming of Steve Blake. A true point guard than can deliver the passes while still keeping defenders honest from time to time. That said, we can use all the scoring options we can get these days. Maybe even one that plays decent defense and can make a free throw or two.
No to Cassell
We already have “combo” guard (that’s short these days for a shoot first point guard) who can shoot up and make an occasional off-balance 3. I’ll pass.
Yeah, I'm iffy on Cassell
On Wood, as well. Just no need. Someone like Bourgault maybe, a catch-and-shoot sniper, or maybe William Howard could fill that role too. But #1 is a true point.
I agree
Especially considering that Bourgault could convince his teammate Orlando Sanchez to come to College Park too. Apparently Maryland is the favorite for Bourgault (who happens to be really good friends with Alex Len), so I like our chances

its simple: acquire top talent at all postions and let the rest sort itself out
Can you be more...

Actually doing it is the tough part.

No point out there to bring in
Unless some JUCO is out there and we can get him, we need people who put the ball in the basket. Cassell JR is putting the ball in the basket and doing it against pretty good competition.
Been saying it for months, if he wants to come here then you take him. From what I have seen of this team it could use him now….. We need to fill the roster with people who have the confidence from day one to score. Right now we have one, you need many more. What would happen if Stogs went down and god forbid if he does? This year or next ( if he is still here next year) we need to add shooters and scorers. Good enough for UCONN, good enough for me.
When I watch this team, one of the things that bothers me the most is the lack of scoring confidence at times. That has to change and change fast.
if he can score then we can use him...
Peshon is not a combo guard. And a scoring first PG can still make people around him better. Look at how teams are doubling Stoglin. If the kid can play then we will always have a spot for him and if those are all the teams in the mix then I like our chances. No way Sam Sr let him play out west…
we need anyone who can score
This team could be scary good if we had allen and layman shooting threes, padge, pankey, len, and shaquille doing work down low, and stoglin, faust, howard driving to the bucket.

We have many needs.
We need at least one if not two more outside shooting threats from the three. One should be your point guard to keep them honest as well as the wing. We need a point guard that can handle the basketball, penetrate and get to the rim or distribute. We need a power forward and or a center that can score from twelve to fifteen feet. We need a couple strong rebounders on the court at all times. That is what a championship team is made of. What parts are on our current team? I can see continued improvement next year and then hopefully a knock it out of the ballpark recruiting class in 2013. With the addition of another power forward a sharpshooter and might I say the twins in2013 I see National Championship.
Take Him
Yes, he’s not the pass-first PG that everybody wants, but he can put the ball in the hoop, and that is something we really need right now. Stoglin and Faust are the only real scorers on this team right now, and Faust isn’t quite there yet, though I do think he will be very soon. Cassell can make plays in the same sense that Stoglin does. I definitely would not mind getting a local kid that can fill it up.
Like somebody said earlier, bring in the talent, and good character guys, and things will sort themselves out..
I agree
Look when Stoglin is on the bench, who is our “Go To” guy now? No one really. Mosley on occasion, Faust on a rare occasion but really no one else is a threat from outside when Stoglin needs a break.
You bring in Cassell and he’s our guy when Stogs needs rest. Plus you can sub more often so both are fresh instead of Stogs being on the floor for 38 minutes per game.
If there is truly NO other true PG available for next year, I think we go with Cassell.
GO TERPS!!
FYI - Seth Allen played last night
First game back from the broken hand – Stats:
Points – 12
Assists – 2
Rebounds – 3
Steals – 10
Turnovers – 1
Not sure how many minutes he played but not a bad game for his first game back.
Fredericksburg Christian won the game 64-57
GO TERPS!!!
Wow 10 steals!!!! A double double w/ steals
That really stands out…aren’t we near the bottom of the ACC in steals.
That will be a much needed boost for this team..

I'll take 10 steals over the FT issue
What kid doesn’t have problem with foul shooting lately (it seems). Not sure how he’s done the rest of the year but it IS his first game back after a broken hand. Give the kid a break (preferably not on another body part).
GO TERPS!!
Anyone have a clue
As for the level of competition Seth faces? Hope he stays healthy from here on out.
I don't think its the quality of the WCAC
I know they played Montrose last year but I don’t think they play those type of teams on a consistent basis. I would guess the competition is mediocre at best.
Not sure if this tells us anything but here is some ranking info for F'burg Christian
Someone else may be able to decipher this to let us know if it means anything.
GO TERPS!
So, I would imagine
Cassell is playing tougher competition and putting up 40 sometime? IMO and I have scene both Allen and Cassell in person. Cassell is the better player and its not even close. He shoots better, better handle and much more diverse game then Seths. Of course just my opinion and a small sample at two games for Seth and three for Cassell. It will be fun over the next few years to see if I turn out to be correct.
Seth has another game tonight. Lets see how he does for his 2nd game back
Wish I was closer to F’burg, I could go check the game out in person.
GO SETH!!!
Just posted to ESPN NCAA Rumors..
Few 2012 recruits have seen their stock explode quite the way Sam Cassell Jr.’s has, as is evidenced by his lastest offer from UConn.
But Adam Finkelstein of ESPN’s Recruiting Nation points out today that Maryland could be the school that’s making a move in Cassell’s recruitment.
“… Maryland made the biggest statement this weekend as head coach Mark Turgeon brought the full staff to support their backcourt target,” writes Finkelstein.
As you can see in Finkelstein’s interview with Cassell, many schools (UConn, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Central Florida, South Florida, Washington) are suddenly in the mix for this recruit once regarded as a mid-major caliber talent.
Again, take him.
We obviously want him if the entire staff is going to his game. I would welcome him with open arms. This team is in dire need of someone that can consistently score the basketball.
Visit to Uconn
Apparently Cassell Jr is taking an official visit to UConn today. Their interest in him seems as though it just popped up out of nowhere, but if he is a player on their radar, I don’t see why we shouldn’t want him. I think it will definitely help us that his dad lives in the area and would get to see him play.
