Danny O'Brien Releases Statement About Transfer
DOB-related news continues to pile up, and probably will until he picks his new school. Today, he released a statement about his decision to transfer from Maryland.
Here goes:
After careful thought, contemplation, prayer, and consultation with my family, we have come to a consensus that it is in my best interest to continue my educational and athletic endeavors elsewhere.
This was a very difficult decision, one which I did not take lightly. I will forever cherish the friendships of teammates, academic and athletic support staff, fellow students, professors, and of course Terp fans.
Playing at Byrd Stadium and experiencing college life in College Park will remain as unforgettable experiences for the rest of my life. I certainly wish nothing but the best to the team next season and for years to come.
I look forward to completing one of my established goals of graduating from the University of Maryland this spring and becoming a proud alumnus of this great institution.
Danny O’Brien
Pretty straightforward and standard, as far as press releases go. Seems this kind of thing (press release when a big-time college player makes a decision like this) is becoming more commonplace, but it's still kind of odd to me. Again, best of luck to DOB wherever he ends up.
Any thoughts on the statement? It's pretty bland, all in all, but still worth reading.

Shocker
DOB much more classy with this statement than Edsall was with his.

Pretty standard, but still a classy move.
Gotta respect DOB.
DOB takes the high road
After Rockin Randy takes the low road. What does is say about RR that he’s outclassed by 20 year old kid?
Pete- you say “standard” but in this program taking the high road is anything but. Edsall had the chance to give a “standard” press release about the guys that transferred yesterday and instead called them each out in a targeted and mean spirited way.
Standard for press releases, not Maryland
Edsall clearly has a lot of…trouble when it comes to PR.
Testudo Times - http://www.testudotimes.com
Because
In not so few words, he called DOB a quitter, called Garcia a wimp, and called Rowson an idiot.
Why make it personal with guys when you can just wish them the best?
Those would be mean spirited things to say,
but he didn’t say a single one of those things.
It's all how you interpret it
Of course he didn’t say that straight up, but it’s always someone else’s fault with Edsall. DOB left because he wasn’t all in (translation, he’s a quitter, not my fault). Garcia left because he couldn’t handle being away from his parents (translation, he’s a mamma’s boy, not my fault), Rowson left because he wanted to play a position that he clearly couldn’t play (translation, he’s dumb for thinking he could play DB, not my fault)
It’s just the same old bs from this guy— always somebody else’s fault.
Do you think DOB had some things he would’ve like air publicly about Edsall? Of course, but he took the high road, something Rockin Randy should really try. Hopefully, the next time RR is choosing which road to take will be a year from now after he’s canned.

alternative interpretation
“Danny told me that he’s not committed to our program, that he’s not ‘all in.’” – Statement of fact. He’s leaving the program. You can’t be any less “in” than leaving the program voluntarily.
“Max is still homesick. He wants to transfer to a school closer to home so his family can see him play.” – Statement of fact. Max told Edsall this directly.
“Mario wants to play defensive back. Trouble is, we see Mario as a linebacker.” – Statement of fact. Rowson doesn’t fit into the team’s plans as a DB and would be better off somewhere else if he wants playing time at that position.
Does Edsall avoid blame? Yes, he does. Could he have phrased things better? Probably, but I don’t think he is truly negative about any of those players if you just read what he actually said and don’t try to put words into his mouth. Both the media and the fanbase complained when his press releases didn’t give us any information about why those earlier players transferred. All we got was the “fine young man” and “best of luck” lines. Now he explains each one of the transfers in the way that the players directly explained it to him and we complain again.
OK
It can be seen both ways. I’m just tired of seeing guys turn in their scholarships and decide to play somewhere else. Take a guess how many transfers Penn State has seen since everything went down there? Zero. Not a single kid left.
We’ve had thirteen leave since the end of Edsall’s first season and 25 since he took over, including the supposed poster boy DOB. Transferring is not an easy thing that guys want to do, it’s a pain in the ass and only worth it if things are really bad where your at.
Did you expect
Edsall to come out and say “the players wanted to transfer because I suck at what I’m doing and they know that.” Did you expect the players to even say that to him when they were asking him to transfer?
I understand that the negative feelings towards Edsall can help shade everything that comes out of Gossett, but if DOB, Garcia and Rowson told him those things directly and he just relayed that information, it’s hard to attribute some sort of sinister avoidance of blame.
I'm frustrated, too.
There are many great reasons to hate on Edsall, I just don’t see this as one of them.
Mrs. Diggs knows whats up
For some silly reason I trust Mrs. Diggs opinion of Head Coach then yours. My guess is that Coach Edsall has never sat in your living room trying to convince your child to come play for him.

You're reading into those comments way too much
And it comes off as grasping at straws. I’m pretty sure no matter how Edsall phrased any of those explanations you would “translate” them to “mean spirited” things.

Most notable thing...
DOB makes no reference to thanking the coaching staff.
BTW…what else did RE say? I saw something saying how he was initially ‘shocked’ last Wednesday when DOB told him in his office (I think he meant clueless or he was ignoring what everyone else had known for months) He said he wished that DOB had stayed and wished him well. At least I thought. Did I miss something? Another RE classic foot in mouth leakage??
Part of me is upset DOB, Dill, Garcia, DJ, Mackall, and others are leaving but I understand its not Maryland they want to leave but Randy Edsall.
This is working out about as well as Rich Rod worked out at MI.
Classy statement
From a classy Terp! We wish you the best Danny
Please
You guys put Danny OBrien like he is the second coming, an average quarterback. Why would Edsall have O’Brien host Stephon Diggs if he was going to transfer. He tells everyone that he is transferring after everyone signs their LOI. Talk about horrible timing. He had one good year with two receivers who are playing in the NFL now. So he thanked no coaches, talk about disrespect.. Please, I am glad we denied him going to Vanderbilt. I wish him well, but Edsall is not the only bad guy. I do believe Edsall needs to loosen up a bit and not take things so personally. We will know in the next few years if this hire is worth it but I am not that down after losing Danny O’Brien. What ever happened about being a team player. Suck it up, some of these kids are punch of cry babies if they do not get their way. So what if you have to earn your spot as the #1 quarterback. Wisconsin, Stanford he is all yours. To me a true Terp does not give up and transfer to another school.

You clearly don't know a lot about the kid
Did you know he drove up from his home in North Carolina while still in high school so he could participate in spring ball? Did you know he gave up his time to go across the state to Terrapin Club events to promote the football program and get fans behind it and Edsall? Have you ever met the kid or talked with him? I can honestly say I have. The kid loves the University of Maryland but Edsall and his management style are so bad, that he’d rather graduate and leave than stay.
This isn’t an issue so much about the skill set that DOB has or does not have. It’s about a coach who preaches about Maryland football being about the name on the front of the jersey not the name on the back, but turns around and makes everything about him. I’m not saying Edsall hasn’t done good, but he’s failed, consistently, at handling the kids he inherited, utilizing systems that benefit the talent he inherited, and getting players to buy in. I’m not going to sit here and call for Edsall to be fired, because that’s stupid, it’s a waste of time, and honestly, Maryland shouldn’t make that move. I think ultimately Edsall can and will have success here. But rather than utilizing what he has until he brings in the players he wants, he’s decided he’d rather knock down the entire building and rebuild it his way. There was a good framework in place, but he’s decided not to utilize it. That’s his decision and I don’t think it’s the right one. And it’s exactly what this program didn’t need. This program needs someone to come in and renovate what was already in place, and the fan support would build. Now the fans are waiting for 2-3 years as the construction of the new program is built. Maryland can’t really afford multiple sub-500 seasons in the financial shape they’re in. I can’t help but think that this is what Edsall told Anderson he wanted to do and Anderson hired him. So part of me doesn’t even want to blame Edsall.
This entire DOB thing just rubbed me the wrong way. Like I said, the kid loves Maryland and to see him want to transfer from a school he loves just illustrates how miserable life for him must have been under Edsall.

This
It’s about a coach who preaches about Maryland football being about the name on the front of the jersey not the name on the back, but turns around and makes everything about him.
At this point it’s been said ad nauseam, but it’s this PERCEPTION that rubs some fans the wrong way. It’s a lot of small actions and quotes that have culminated to this point. I don’t want him fired, and I give him credit for a lot of the positive moves that have occurred this off-season. But his (to me at least) seeming lack of accountability and double standard has not endeared me to him. Maybe that’s an issue with some of these players. That said, he wins, and all is forgiven.
mixed feelings
Dave, I completely agree with your assessment of Edsall’s handling of the program. He didn’t have to be so my-way-or-the-highway … he could have looked at the cultural overhaul as a two-year process and made some concessions to the veteran players who had put their time in, and then the team would’ve been much better last year than it was. However, if DOB truly loved Maryland the way you say he does, he’d still be at Maryland. He’s leaving us, we’re not leaving him. His loyalty to the prior administration ultimately won out over his loyalty to Maryland. That’s fine, but it’s fair for him to be in the line of fire now. We get to judge his real record as QB, not just some fantasy about how incredible he was when Fridge, Franklin, Torrey and LaQuan were still here. And, we get to place some of the responsibility for the terrible quarterbacking in the 2011 season on the starting quarterback, not just put it all on Edsall and Crowton. Edsall not only didn’t run away from his horrible year, he’s taken dramatic measures to fix it. Can’t say the same for DOB. Good luck to the kid. Wish he would’ve hung around, but I’m not convinced he deserved to be our QB if he did. He adapted poorly and played poorly in the last system change, so who’s to say he would’ve done any better this time around? We’ll never know, because he didn’t stay and fight for it. That’s not love. You can write a press release that caters to students and fans, but those written words don’t speak as loud as his actions. You can leave and say nice things on the way out, but you still left.
I see what you're saying
I don’t think he should have been the defacto starter. He needed to show he deserved that in spring ball. But I really think the kid bleeds red, white, black & gold.
In the end...
…what has happened, has happened. “It is what it is, and it’s how it’s going to be.”
I wish DOB the best. But for the sake of the team I root for, CJB all the way…
Can't grant you that
If you bleed those colors, you wouldn’t be wearing someone else’s jersey next year.
He's graduating
And he did a lot for this school. You’re not in his shoes. He fulfilled his obligation to a certain extent. If the best thing for him moving forward is to play elsewhere in a system that showcases his skills, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still love Maryland, it means he’s making a choice that’s best for him.
by Dave Tucker on Feb 14, 2012 3:02 PM EST up reply actions 2 recs
yeah but still
Saying he bleeds our colors is a stretch when he’s choosing someone else’s colors to wear this fall. I’ve got no argument against him doing what’s best for him. I would probably do the same thing if I were him — what’s best for me. But that doesn’t mesh with him bleeding our school colors and he’s the hero and Edsall’s the villain. DOB says he loves Maryland — in a prepared press release, on his way out the door, in the midst of an intensely heated PR battle between old regime folks and new regime folks. That rings a little hollow for me. Maybe, just maybe, he wrote that to try and claim a piece of higher ground and save some face while leaving for greener pastures. Yes, he did a lot for the school. Seems like an honorable guy. Had a good freshman year. But regardless of what his degree says on it. He’s going to be someone else’s quarterback and what he does as a junior and senior wearing other colors besides ours is ultimately going to be the DOB story. Those will be the colors he’ll be remembered for.
He won't be a junior or senior except in FB eligibility terms
he will be a grad student. Its different.
I think you can still love a school and a fanbase,
while disagreeing with the coaching staff’s philosophy and vision for the future.

He is graduating and will soon be an alum
as much as I liked MD for Undergrad, I didn’t WANT to go to grad school there. Sure his decision is more likely about FB than education, however the completed his degree and fulfilled any and all obligations he had to the University of MD.
Its different once one has their degree, and with his degree in hand he has earned the right to pursue his goals in the manner which he feels best benefits him, not the Terp fan base.
r-hgr
Great post Dave, however in all of those trips DOB took...
…perhaps he was not miserable at all. Perhaps it was more of an effort to move on to greener pastures which he CAN do because he completed his degree. Not a decision to escape misery perhaps but a decision to do something that he is more excited about, happier about, offers better opportunities.
We don’t know, but the evidence does point towards leaving to escape a degree of unhappiness, especially when considering all of the other transfers (including how many former starting OLs?).

I didnt equate not being all in to saying DOB quit...
Thats others twisting REs words…I just think RE coldly reacts to things that happen, doesnt get emotionally attached, and if DOB or any other FB player doesnt buy into the “Randy Edsall School of FB Behavior and Thought” then good riddance and good luck. RE seems to be machine like and calculating…on a mission with a plan with no built-in room for adjustments or tweeks. The ones he made this year? Maybe forced on him after a conversation with KA and realization that Crowton was a mistake from Day 1 (he didnt really want to be here – he wanted his own HC job) and not being able to keep DB or hire an experienced DC and ending up forced to have Bradford give it a try backfired too. Still wondering if DB leaving ‘to be closer to his family’ wasnt code for something else. The timing of his departure was very strange.
look at it from edsall's standpoint
He practically begs the kid to stay, brings in a pro style offensive coordinator to help with his development who is notorious for bringing in top talent and having an explosive offense, Gets the kid to host the biggest MD recruit in years, only to find out that he’s wants to transfer 2 DAYS before diggs commits. This isn’t all on edsall. Fine I get that o’brien has to look out for himself, but there’s nothing wrong in what edsall did in my opinion. Especially considering (directly or indirectly) that dob is screwing edsall and this football program by leaving, creating a PR firestorm a gap at the so called face of the program position. Good luck to him and his future endeavors, but don’t tell me he can wipe his hands clean without knowing what he’s leaving behind…

It’s not over!
Book it! Caleb Rowe
Day one Starter. I think he has been blowing up lately and has a good relationship for RE. He is also a very good passing QB. I think CJB’s plays became limited when our wildcat QB Diggs singed his LOI.
OK DOB is moving on
after a lack luster year in which he was often pulled in favor of CJB. He didn’t do well under Croton’s O and CJB is still here? That fact likely factored into his decision to move on as well. Lets wish DOB well and but lets also wish well for the rest of the team that didn’t quit. Lets wish Croton and Bradford well and thank the lord and Edsall they are gone. Now lets focus on a top 35 NCAA recruiting class and our first 5 star recruit, Mr. Diggs and several 4 star local recruits and more that want to be Terps. Lets wish Locks and Stewart well and thank them for what they are trying to do. When you are hearing from people who just want to hate on Randy Remember Mrs. Diggs. She had to listen to that from the great urban myer at Ohio State and every other Florida, Alabama etc. bad mouth Randy and Maryland football to try to get her support for her son to play for them. She said she liked Coach Edsall and did not waiver. Good for her. Randy has work to do on several fronts for sure but I am wishing him well and looking to move forward. Go Terps

I'm with you
It’s time to stop all the hate directed at RE. We’ve got a good class coming in with a possibly great future quarterback/receiver combination so it’s time to look forward. Hope springs eternal.
Name association
For all you RE haters, I have a name for you. Tom Coughlin. He’s cut from the exact same cloth, interacts the same way, unemotional, hard-assed, started in NY the same way, cutting guys who weren’t “all in”, and was hated by the NY Giant fan base. How do you think they like him now? Can RE be a bit more “likeable”? Sure. At the same time, is it unreasonable to set standards and ask kids to belly up? He didn’t diss DOB, he just said he wasn’t all in. Apparently Garcia said he was homesick, so RE was just restating that fact. Rowson wants to leave, why beg him to stay? RE is here to stay for a while. Give him your support instead of your whining.
My point has and will continue to be
That Edsall is essentially rebuilding a program that didn’t need to be rebuilt. I think he can and will succeed, if given time, but because of where Maryland was/is, he was the wrong hire. That doesn’t mean you fire him, it means we’re going to deal with a mass exodus and a few really bad years before we get better. Then Edsall will get credited for rebuilding a program that didn’t need to be rebuilt.
That, plus the fact that Edsall clearly has an inability to articulate himself in a way that doesn’t make him come across as a total douche, is what upsets me during all of this. And people need to start realizing that critiquing a coach doesn’t mean that we want him fired. It doesn’t mean we want him run out of town or want Maryland to fail. We want him to succeed (and again, I think he ultimately will), but he’s making it a lot harder to buy in and making delaying that process of winning by several years when he didn’t have to.
I agree with this.
I will add that when RE starts burning bridges with HIS guys – guys whom he brought in – THAT’s when we have a huge issue.
Dont compare NFL coaches with college football coaches
The NFL is all based on player attention and college is all about the head coach. NFL players get paid college players don’t, especially ones that committed under a different coach. RE did nothing in recruiting until Locks showed up, so all he’s done is go 2-10, he’s accomplished nothing yet and doesn’t have the right to be a total prick. Oh yeah Coughlin won a shit ton of games before he went to the giants.
"since Locks showed up"
He didn’t just show up. He was hired by Edsall to do a job and he’s doing it well.

We don't know that.
We don’t know whether Locks was hired by Edsall or KA, just like we don’t know which of them was responsible for Crowton. Don’t give him too much credit when we don’t have all the info.
I don't give a rat's ass
who hired him. Edsal is his boss now.
It's also not like both entities work completely individual of one another
It’s pretty narrow minded to think that either Crowton or Locksley was an “Edsall hire” or a “KA hire.” Both guys are working on the same team and likely talk on an almost daily basis. So whether the situation was that Edsall suggested they talk to Locksley about the job and then KA was the one who officially called him up and offered the job to him or vice-a-versa, there is really not much merit to the idea that KA/Edsall hire guys without any consent from the other party. Both guys work as a team and deserve the credit/blame for their hires.

Turgeon on the radio today
First question he was asked was about Stoglin and the tweet.
Coach said that he pulled him because they were playing better without him on the floor. Stoglin said what he said because he was frustrated. But Turgeon said that he talked with Stoglin afterwards and explained to him why he did what he did, and Turgeon made it sound like Stoglin understood. He then talked to the whole team about twitter and said that they have to watch what they say. But he’s not going to shut twitter down for the team because ‘you can’t do that with kids’.
One of the more interesting things that Coach said in the interview was, when asked about playing in the ACC and comparing it to the Big 12, he said something along the lines of “It’s a lot harder than I thought. From the outside looking in, you’ve had the perception the last couple of years that the ACC is a lower conference [than the Big 12]. But it’s better now that I’m here, and it’s getting stronger.” Paraphrase, obviously. Although, the ‘better…now that I’m here’ quote is pretty direct.

So, Danny OBrien is the first to speak at booster events, please! You act like Maryland owed Danny OBrien for something. Then why still around to after the signing period and host the #1 recruit then transfer. I went to Maryland and served in the military and I did not have luxury of choosing who is my coach/boss, you learned to work with many management styles and work together as a team. No one is bigger than the other. Making a choice best for you in all accounts is selfish, it is afterall a team sport. To me he did let down his teamates down, especially transferring at this point in the season. I did lose a little respect for him. IIt is not like he is the golden child. I do wish him well, but I will not miss him.

Narrow perspective and a ridiculous false comparison.
You didn’t have a choice. He does. You made a ~5 year commitment. He didn’t. You were in the military. He plays a game. Please don’t act like these things are equal.
And of course his decision is selfish. He sees himself as a potential NFL player, and he likely determined that Maryland was not going to get him there. What if he believed that his future career and livelihood were at stake by staying at Maryland in a system in which he couldn’t flourish? Can you honestly tell me that you would not make the move that would best suit you and your career for the sake of loyalty to a football program that had showed you little in return?
Get off his back.
To be fair
Danny made a commitment when he came to MD, and he was bound by NCAA rules. If Gutch would had left he would had been charged with a crime. If DOB leaves he gets a release (because MD is nice), that permits him to go to 87% of the Div 1A schools out there…. LOL Love the haters.
I can't tell... are you contradicting my point?
I think DOB has every right to leave, and that Edsall has every right to restrict where he goes. He fulfilled his commitment to the university (remember, scholarships are renewed annually, they don’t last for 4 years), and now he can make the choice to further his career somewhere else.
I think Gutch was making an extremely unfair comparison by juxtaposing O’Brien’s situation with his past military experience.
Well
I went to Maryland and served in the military and I did not have luxury of choosing who is my coach/boss, you learned to work with many management styles and work together as a team.
It goes both ways. A new leader coming in to a situation may recognize that drastic changes need to be made, but they shouldn’t be made entirely at the expense of both the morale and capabilities of the team/unit. And I agree that ‘no one is bigger than [the whole].’ But sometimes I feel as though Edsall needs to remember that as well (along with most other college level coaches.)
No Kidding
Even if you are in the military, when 25 out of 80 of your men refuse to follow you into battle or request a transfer to another, you have a problem and better start looking in the mirror before your superior finds out
No
The 25 of those men have a problem, because anyone on a combat team knows you put those issues aside when it comes time to battle…..
Sorry, I don't want my above comment to be misconstrued
If we’re going to keep up the military analogy, it’s somewhere in between what I think you and MA are saying. Yes, you are going to put any issues aside when it’s time to play the game. But if the leadership has alienated the unit that he inherited to the point where you aren’t getting optimal performance, part of it is on the leader.
I hope what I’m saying makes sense. There needs to be some give and take on both sides. In my opinion, a great leader adjusts to get the most out of all of his players/unit.
I understood it
At some point, KA, if he is competent will sit down with Edsall and ask him to evaluate his methods….
Same thing happened with Joe Krivak and Andy Geiger
You didn't have potentially millions of dollars hanging in the balance
about whether to stay or leave (or the choice). If DOB stays at UMD and isn’t as successful as he could be somewhere else (even if he starts), at a MINIMUM you’re talking millions of dollars just on a rookie NFL contract.
What's the chances we will actually miss DOB?
I mean will we lose more games without him than we would with him?
Screech's Godson
UMD Class of 2014! GO TERPS!!!
I won't miss him
He may have had a great freshman year but he was horrible last year. How many times did he throw it 5 yards short on the bubble screens? I never could figure out what happened to him between years. And don’t anyone here say it was Edsal’s fault. That’s BS.

If CJ gets hurt
I’ll miss him a hell of a lot.
Ehhh
It is what it is, DOB doesn’t think UMD is the best place for him. I can completely respect that, and wish him the best. I think CJB might just surprise people with a full spring practice and camp snaps. I also think RE still needs PR classes, hopefully someone is teaching it this spring/summer and he can sit in on the class. What’s done is done, time to move on, let the next man in line have a go at it.
Since we are all making things up ....
how do we know that the sticking point is simply a starting position wasn’t promised, and since the people who recruited an individual are no longer present ….. maybe it seems more attractive to find people that are going to recruit you again rather than try and convince new management.
Well here comes a new QB
Ricar
You just got Locksley'd.... get use to it

Dual-threat style as well
Ricardo Young transferring here, not completely unexpected.
@nkeninitz
DOB
Best of luck DOB !!! I’m sure he will be succesful, whatever he does. I would bet more than J.W.will ever be !! 2nd round pick, lmao
JW
Had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block the other night in 25 minutes. Not great, but if he can do that on a consistent basis, he’ll have a bit of a career.
Yeah Right
Big numbers. Imagine how much they would be in 2013, after he lead UMD to the sweet 16 and he woulda been a Lottery pick.. He’s better off in 2011-2012 being a 2nd round pick, playing in the NBA DEVOLPMENTAL LEAGUE and 8 minutes a game for the “NETS”, funny as hell.
I'm not trying to dispute that leaving when he did was a good idea
Just saying that he is getting minutes and being a little productive in the League. I don’t think his future is bright, but the possibility is there for him to be viable for at least a few years.
Yea
It is what it is. Only thing that can be asked now is ‘What if?’ I can still hope that he will have a serviceable career. I just don’t expect it to last more than a few years in the NBA. But he can still make money outside of the NBA playing ball.
This Constant Instability will not lead to Winning!
The Bottom Line from such departures as DOB,Max and Mario is a continuing instability in the program. Which means another “Young/in-experienced team” which means more Loosing than winning while we go backward in our development process! Enjoy that with your Hot Dogs in Byrd come this fall. I sure will / NOT.

Good Riddance
We’ll all still be here rooting, because true fans don’t give up on there team because they dislike the coach.
Thanks for proving my point I made in the other thread by the way. The Edsall haters aren’t true fans at all, fair weather fans at best.
In your mind
Can you differentiate between Edsall ‘haters’ and people that aren’t sold that Edsall will prove to be the great hire that we all want? Just curious.
That's easy -
the Edsal haters are claiming they KNOW he’s going to be a failure, after only one year. I know I’ve had my moments where I got caught up in all the hate being talked up in here. It seems the easy thing to do. The people who aren’t sold on Edsal are going to at least give him more time to prove himself. And, really, we have no other choice. I’m really excited about the future. Caleb Rowe and Stefon Diggs are going to be fun to watch grow.
Wrong
True fans will support the program. That said, IF the program is tanking (which it is) then true fans have a responsibility to make their views known. I have been waiting over 40 years for MD to make a major commitment to football and become a power-NEVER going to happen.

While I'm far from an Edsall fan...
I’m not sure firing your coach after 1 year plays into your stability theory.
Firing him this far into the offseason would be a disaster. There’s nothing we can do about the transfers now. We just have to weather this storm and hope RE can fix the program by next fall.
DOB
Wonder if he will still find a job at UA now that his leaving.Thouht that idea would keep him at Md.
Good Luck DOB
This whole situation rubbed me the wrong way as well, but you have to respect the kid’s decision. You can’t keep a kid here if he doesn’t want to be here. The Vandy block was a bit of a head scratcher. Not sure why you would prevent such a move, but I’m sure Edsall had his reasons.
We need to officially move on from this. Whether it’s CJB, one of the freshmen, or somebody else.. I’m anxious to see how 2012 fares for our Terps.
You'll change your tone
if he wins. Give him time.
Question
Did anyone feel good about having JF as the HCIW after the 2009 season?
I wish him the best...
..but I’d buy a round of drinks if DOB ever makes it to the NFL…
Met Danny at a TC event...
..and he seemed like a first class kid who had his head on straight. Not sure why he regressed so badly last year, but it seems a shame that we couldn’t keep the former ROY at the most important position on the field happy and playing well and leaving CP with all the major passing records rather than under this cloud. I personally wish him nothing but the best in whatever he chooses.
It’s called the sophomore jinx and applies to both collegiate and professional athletes who often struggle after the successes of a freshman or rookie year. Throw in a coaching staff determined to change a system rather than play to its players talents and strengths and it’s fairly easy to see why DOB had an off year.
But don’t be surprised when DOB has a big time return to collegiate football or is playing in the NFL in three years. He has that kind of talent.
If he plays
like he did last year he’ll have trouble being the starter for any big D1 school. I wish him the best though. He seems like the kind of kid who will use the adversity to drive himself to improve.
I wish DOB the best.
Gotta root for a quality kid. He doesn’t HAVE to go to a big D1 school. Joe Flacco did pretty well transferring from Pitt to Delaware. If you have NFL-level talent, the NFL will find you.
Whatever happened to the QB we were recruiting from Old Tappan HS in NJ?
He is a 4 star QB. I think his name was Fuller.
Just GO AWAY Danny
You did not perform last season so now you want to bail out-so JUST GO!
